This degree focuses on the prevention and care of muscle, bone and joint injuries as they occur in sport, recreation, fitness and in the workplace. Students will learn to assess the cause and severity of an injury and provide the most effective rehabilitation and return to sport/recreation/work protocol.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered through the Department of Business and Administration is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, in the private, public or non-profit sectors. We nurture socially conscience business leaders and entrepreneurs that are capable of adapting to the ever-changing needs of the modern business world.

The Business and Administration program develops critical thinking, analytic and decision-making abilities, oral and written communication skills, and the self-confidence to effectively apply these skills. Some courses in the program are taught using the case method, a simulation of real business situations from the perspective of the actual decision-maker. Computer-based simulations, experiential exercises, guest speakers, and field trips are also used to connect course material to the business world.  A new co-op work study program allows students to add career real work experience to their UW Degree. Urban and Inner-City Studies is an interdisciplinary Major concerned with the examination of the city as a dynamic environment. Our unique location serves as a gateway for north end residents to enter the University of Winnipeg and as a place for the larger UWinnipeg student body to connect to and learn from the north end community. The program combines a traditional urban studies focus with courses that examine various aspects of the inner city, such as the urban Aboriginal experience, the immigrant and refugee experience, and the role of women. In Canada, cities continue to be centres of great challenge: from managing suburban growth to promoting inner-city revitalization; from responding to the opportunities and concerns created by rapidly changing demographics, to those created by globalization and socio-economic change. Cities are also home to increased concentrations of poverty and social and political exclusion. The Urban and Inner-City Studies program provides an opportunity to examine the political, economic, social and spatial context of these and many other important aspects of urban change from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Are you interested in issues affecting our environment? Environmental Studies and Sciences combines many different perspectives to understand the changes in our environment, while acknowledging human impacts and providing a framework to develop solutions for environmental programs. You can choose your course of study from six different subject areas including Chemistry, Forest Ecology, Forest Policy and Management, Global Environmental Systems, Issues in Sustainability, and Urban Environments.

Forest Policy and Management:- study of forest ecology and biology, with a focus on the administrativeand cultural practices and the role of stakeholders in forest policy and management

Master the analytical framework and essential project management tools for budgeting, procuring, scoping, modeling, measuring, and reporting. This program equips graduates with the essential skills of project management and is aligned with the knowledge requirements of the Project Management Professional (PMP)® and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® industry-recognized certifications.

(PMP and CAPM are internationally recognized designations offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI)

Program Outcomes

• Create and execute project work plans, define project scope and deliverables, determine project resources and staffing requirements, set project milestones, develop budget proposals, and successfully close a variety of projects.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the procurement life cycle including contract (tort) laws, potential legal issues, the step-by-step methodology for developing and managing procurement specifications, documents and contracts, and best practices for the vendor selection process.
• Create a project management communication plan that builds effective stakeholder and project team communication, and gain familiarity with a variety of project reporting tools and communication templates for communication purposes throughout the project life cycle.
• Manage change in project scope, create comprehensive risk profiles, and identify and develop mitigation and avoidance strategies that protect against a variety of liabilities and damage to organizational business interests.
• Foster a dynamic team environment built on collaborative relationships, clearly define group roles and responsibilities of the project team, and constructively and proactively manage conflict in order to avoid potential harm to the project and/or project team.
• Utilize project management technologies and analytics to streamline and ease process.
• Will help prepare students to write the Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) designation examinations.

The Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health at The University of Winnipeg is student-centred with small classes and labs and accessible professors. Our professors have expertise and research interests in areas that include adapted physical activity, physical activity and aging, sports nutrition, coaching, sport and exercise psychology, motor behaviour, exercise physiology, biomechanics and prevention, care and treatment of muscle, bone and joint injuries.

Professionals in the field of Kinesiology are interested in increasing physical activity participation, enhancing sport performance,development of physical literacy, the technical and tactical aspects of coaching, the short and long term effects of exercise and the effect of physical activity on society.

The goal of physics is to formulate theories, or “laws,” which summarize our knowledge of the natural world. We don’t yet know all the basic laws of nature, or how many laws there are.

The famous physicist Richard Feynman said the first principle of science is that the test of all knowledge is experiment and experiment is the sole judge of scientific “truth.” But what is the source of knowledge? Where do the laws that are to be tested come from? Experiment itself helps to produce these laws in the sense that it gives us hints. We also need imagination to create from these hints the great generalizations: to guess at the wonderful, simple, but very strange patterns beneath them all, and then to experiment to check again whether we have made the right guess. Physics needs people with imagination and a thirst to understand the inner workings of nature.

Research in physics often gives rise to unexpected benefits, with revolutionary discoveries like galaxies, lasers, magnetic resonance imaging, fibre optic communications, and the transistor.

The University of Winnipeg has a nationally recognized Physics Department. Research is conducted on a variety of topics in both theoretical and experimental physics. The experimentalists study the nature of diamonds and semiconductors, medical uses of MRI, and the properties of subatomic particles, while the theorists imagine, deduce and investigate the inner workings of black holes, hot space, chaos, quantum computers, and quantum gravity. Students are encouraged to participate in these research activities through summer employment with research groups.

This program can lead to a Bachelor of Science degree (3-year, 4-year, or Honours). The 4-year and Honours programs have the options of Chemical, Computational, and Mathematical Physics streams.

Are you interested in obtaining an education organized around questions of social justice, global citizenship and human rights? Consider our new major in Human Rights – the only one of its kind in Western Canada. Through this multidisciplinary program, you will have an opportunity to explore issues of human rights in a context defined by globalization. This major is offered through Global College.

Women's and Gender Studies promotes an intersectional approach to understanding social problems and phenomena. It pays special attention to the ways sex, gender, and sexuality are shaped by colonialism, racism, ageism, homophobia, and transphobia, as well as by constructions of difference based on class, (dis)ability, religion, ethnicity, and culture. Our unique department brings these perspectives to the university, and represents feminism in the academy. In our classes, students of all genders and sexualities learn about feminist movements to end sexism, exploitation, and related social oppressions. The department encourages diversity among its students and in its curriculum, and offers the means to contribute to social change.
Currently, there is a demonstrated need for people with a background in Women's and Gender Studies to take up work in such areas as social services, education, policy development, welfare, health care, counselling and therapy, law, media, advertising, public administration, finance, and management.
