Studying in our recently extended state-of-the-art £71 million City South Campus in Edgbaston, you will explore concepts such as education and society, equality, diversity, values and policies of the UK education system, as well as educational systems around the world. You will also have lots of opportunities to delve deeper into subjects that matter and are of interest to you too.

Our degree uses a wide variety of learning methods, including interactive and engaging lectures, seminars and workshops with guest speakers often stopping by to share their knowledge. This is combined with our experienced course staff who will be supporting and guiding you every step of the way.

Throughout the course we arrange visits to and welcome guest speakers from organisations from across Birmingham including, the Thinktank, Historic England, CBSO and the Newman Brother’s (a museum in the Jewellery Quarter). You will also have the opportunity to go on a work placement during year two to enhance your skills and experience.

The placement module is a crucial aspect and allows you to merge theory with practice.  You will be encouraged to experience and consider different educational settings though enhancement activities such as volunteering, Careers Week, Graduate+ and presentations from external speakers.

This course is designed to promote independence so that you become more a confident, autonomous, creative lifelong learner and will challenge you to push the boundaries and discover your full potential while at university.

We will provide you with a range of teaching and learning experiences to build on your existing skills and motivation so that you can contribute to a changing society, particularly with services who work with, or for, vulnerable children, young people and their families.

Medical engineers support improving healthcare delivery and medical practice by combining the design and problem-solving skills of engineering with medical and biological science to close the gap between engineering and medicine.

Our aim is to develop you into a graduate nurse who is able to work flexibly across a range of settings and meet the health needs of the whole person throughout their lifespan. We will work with you on your development to help you become a skilled, knowledgeable, emotionally intelligent nurse, able to lead and co-ordinate compassionate, evidence-based, person- and family-centered care while working as an integral member of interdisciplinary teams.

The university-based elements of the first two years of your course are integrated, with all fields of nursing working together. Biomedical sciences embrace a number of important disciplines, including physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology and genetics. These subjects are of great importance in the provision of healthcare, medical research and underpin the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. On this course you will learn about how the human body functions in health and disease, and develop an understanding of the diagnosis, management and treatment of a range of diseases. This degree emphasises critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills, which will help you to navigate a successful career after graduation.

Throughout this course you will acquire important practical and scientific skills whilst being taught in our new state-of-the-art life sciences laboratories. You will have the opportunity to take an optional sandwich-year placement in an industrial, clinical or research setting between years 2 and 3 of this course. In the final year you will undertake an independent Research Project where you will execute your own experiments under supervision.
