The exam timetable for the Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination, 2024 has been published by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The preliminary exam is set to take place on February 18, 2024, and the selection process has three stages. Interested candidates can check the dates at upsc.gov.in

Exam

According to the schedule, the preliminary examination for the combined Geoscientist will take place on February 18, 2024 , with two shifts. The General Studies Paper-I (Code No.1), common for all streams, will commence at 9:30 AM and conclude at 11:30 AM on February 18. The subject-specific Paper-II (Code No.2) will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM .

 

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam Syllabus


The General Studies paper (Paper-I) in Stage-I is identical for all streams and is expected to meet the standards of a science graduate. 

 

The Stream-specific paper (Paper-II) in Stage-I and the three compulsory papers in Stage-II, which cover Geology, Geophysics, Chemistry, and Hydrogeology subjects, will be set at the M.Sc. degree standard of an Indian University.

 

Syllabus

 

  • Stage-I : Objective Type
  • Paper-I: General Studies (Common exam)
  • Current events of national and international importance.
  • Indian History and National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography:  Social, Physical, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance: Political System, Panchayati Raj, Constitution, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development : Demographics, Poverty, Inclusion, Sustainable Development, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
  • General Issues on Bio-diversity, Environmental Ecology, and Climate Change 
  • General Science

 

The questions in these papers will primarily assess the candidate's understanding of the fundamental concepts in each subject. Practical examinations will not be conducted for any of the subjects. The UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Prelims Exam Schedule 2024 can be downloaded from  upsc.gov.in .

 

Successful candidates from the prelims will then proceed to the main exam. The UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Main Exam 2024 is scheduled for June 22. After qualifying for the main exam, candidates will be contacted for the interview round to determine the final merit list.

 

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Exam Pattern 

 

The Commission will conduct the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination in three successive stages.

 

Stage-I: Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) having two papers for selection of the candidates for the Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination. Marks secured in the preliminary examination will be counted to decide the final merit.

 

Stage-II: Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination (Descriptive Type) having three papers for the selection of candidates for the Personality Test (Stage-III). Marks secured in the Main Examination will be counted to decide the final merit.

 

Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview Applications are now invited for the Preliminary Examination only. Candidates declared by the Commission to qualify for the Preliminary Examination will be allowed to take the Combined GeoScientist (Main) Examination.
