Bath Spa University - Corsham Court Campus

Established in 1975, Bath Spa University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the rural setting of the large town of Bath (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), South West England. Bath Spa University is where creative minds meet. We teach and research across art, sciences, education, social science, and business. The University employs outstanding creative professionals who support its aim to be a leading educational institution in creativity, culture and enterprise.

The institution can trace its roots back to the foundation of the Bath School of Art in 1852, following the impact of The Great Exhibition of 1851.

In 1946 Bath Teacher Training College was opened on the Newton Park campus, as part of the post-war initiatives to fill wartime teaching shortages. It was a women's college offering two year courses, under the Principal Mary Dawson. The present institution was formed in 1975 as Bath College of Higher Education by the merger of Bath Teacher Training College and Bath College of Domestic Science. In 1983 Bath Academy of Art also merged into the college.

In 1992, the college was granted degree-awarding powers and in 1997 adopted the name Bath Spa University College. In March 2005 the institution was granted university status, becoming Bath Spa University in August 2005.

Corsham Court Campus
Our beautiful Corsham Court campus in Wiltshire is concealed within a grade I listed country house, surrounded by stunning gardens complete with peacocks.

• The majority of our Master’s courses are taught at Corsham Court campus. The campus is also home of our Research Support Office, which works on research funding bids, post award administration and knowledge exchange.

• On-campus facilities include a library, specialist facilities for music and textiles, an art gallery, postgraduate common rooms and quiet study areas. Meeting and seminar rooms are available for you to book and use.
• The beautiful formal gardens and grounds surrounding the main building are available for you to explore and the picture collection can be accessed for study by prior arrangement.
• Bath Spa University has a long history with Corsham Court and the Methuen family who own it. Bath Academy of Art moved to Corsham Court in 1946 and provided higher education in specialist art and design, teacher training, performing arts and combined arts. Bath Academy of Art then became Bath School of Art and Design which is now part of the University.
