The GRE® is a fundamental part of the preparation for pursuing a graduate degree outside of the country. It is also taken into consideration for MBA and certain Law courses. The GRE syllabus 2024 is comprised of three sections - Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning - and the exam itself is 3 hours and 45 minutes long.

GRE Exam Pattern

A prospective GRE® taker has two options for taking the exam: computer-based or paper-based. 

  • Computer-Delivered Test: The computer-delivery test is offered five times a year with a mandatory gap of 21 days between attempts. 
  • Paper-Based Test: If a computer is not accessible, the GRE can be taken in the form of a paper-delivered test.

The Analytical Writing portion of the GRE evaluates someone's capacity to explain complicated notions plainly. The Verbal Reasoning syllabus covers the following topics: Verb Tense, Modifiers, Idioms and Idiomatic Expressions, Pronoun Agreement, Parallelism, and Subject-Verb Agreement.
 

GRE Exam Syllabus: Quantitative Reasoning 

The GRE quantitative section tests a student's ability to understand data, use mathematical concepts to analyze and interpret it, and apply the principles of arithmetic, geometry, statistics, algebra, and probability to problem-solving.

GRE Biology Syllabus

The test contains close to 190 multiple-choice queries related to Biology, covering issues like:

1. Cellular and Molecular Biology

2. Organism Biology

3. Ecology and Evolution

GRE Chemistry Syllabus

There will be a total of 130 multiple-choice questions related to the four major branches of Chemistry. These questions will address the following topics:

1. Analytical Chemistry

2. Inorganic Chemistry

3. Organic Chemistry

4. Physical Chemistry

GRE English Literature Syllabus

The subject test consists of approximately 230 inquiries surrounding literature topics such as poems, biographies, essays, short stories, plays, books, feedback, literary analysis, and the language's background. To effectively get ready for the subject, students should focus on the following:

1. Literary Analysis

2. Identification

3. Cultural and Historical Contexts

4. History and Theory of Literary Criticism

GRE Mathematics Syllabus

The math subject exam is composed of 66 multiple choice questions which are based on the material usually taught in college courses. The GRE math syllabus includes:

5. Statistics

GRE Physics Syllabus

The GRE Subject Test in Physics is made up of around 100 multiple-choice questions. These questions are arranged in sets that are centered on various physical principles. To make sure you're ready for the exam, you must prepare for the following topics:

How to prepare for GRE General Test?

Memorizing facts and figures a couple of days before taking the GRE® will not be of much help. The GRE® is a rigorous testing format that demands considerable time and dedication from the candidates.
