Founded in 1965, the college is a selective public liberal arts college offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Students at the State University of New York College at Old Westbury are encouraged to take ownership of their success and future through an environment of academic excellence, intercultural understanding, and a stimulating passion for learning.

Money Magazine recognized the institute as one of the “Best Colleges” in 2020-2021. Since 1968, when it had its experimental beginnings, the college has grown to become a regional institution of higher education, preparing graduates to serve the world through character and leadership.

The institute now offers bachelor’s, master’s, and certificate programs in economics, finance, criminology, media and communication, visual arts, and psychology through its four schools of arts and science, business, education, and professional studies. Students are mentored by distinguished faculty of teachers, practitioners, and scholars.

Students can get involved in a range of events and activities and access the campus library. The library has digital and offline resources and a range of curriculum-specific material. 

The college promotes intrapersonal student growth and a stronger sense of belonging by providing authentic involvement and leadership opportunities. Student government, clubs, Greek Life, LGBTQ+ initiatives, and more can all be found on campus.

The Student Success Center offers programmes, services, and resources to help students succeed academically and professionally. SUNY at Old Westbury offers two types of housing. At Woodlands Residence Halls, student rooms are available in a collection of five buildings. The halls have rooms furnished with beds, wardrobes, desks, chairs, data ports, and independent heating and air controls. The halls offer laundry, lounges, security, and elevator services as well. The Academic Village is a suite-style housing facility for the students of the college. It consists of 3 to 4 rooms in every suite with common areas. Furnishings along with beds, desks and chairs and facilities like laundry, parking, and maintenance staff are available at the campus.

Funded scholarships are applicable to students at undergraduate and graduate levels.  Old Westbury can keep turning a college education into a reality for many deserving students by offering more scholarships, improving their lives, and impacting the lives of those around them.
