About University of St. Francis

The University of St. Francis is a private, Catholic university founded in 1920 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (the "Joliet Franciscans"). USF's quaint, residential campus is located in Joliet, Illinois, just 35 miles southwest of Chicago. The main campus is situated in the historic Cathedral Area, and is connected to USF's St. Bonaventure and St. Clare campuses by a convenient shuttle service. Joliet is easily accessible by major interstates (I-55 & I-80), by rail, and by air through Chicago’s Midway and O’Hare Airports. USF also operates a small campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which is home to the USF Physician Assistant program.

Mission Statement
As a Catholic university rooted in the liberal arts, we are a welcoming community of learners challenged by Franciscan values and charism, engaged in a continuous pursuit of knowledge, faith, wisdom, and justice, and ever mindful of a tradition that emphasizes reverence for creation, compassion and peacemaking. We strive for academic excellence in all programs, preparing women and men to contribute to the world through service and leadership.

Living on Campus
The residential living options at the University of St. Francis are varied and unique. There are three residence living areas with several different types of rooms. The residential experience is something students from Joliet, across the United States and across the globe are thrilled to be a part of.

Current resident Hannah McLaughlin shared, “Living on campus is great because being really close to everything you don’t have to worry about driving to practice or classes, you can wake up and be right at school. I have made some of my best friends living here.”

Benefits of Living on Campus
In our three residential living options there are full-time professional staff members on call to offer support when students need it. Every student also has a specific resident assistant and peer minister who lives near them to be a friend and role model.

USF residence life options have consistently been rated much higher than most on-campus options at universities across the country. Our past and present students tell us:

  • It’s convenient– you’ll be close to friends, classes, practice, clubs and more.
  • It’s easy to get involved and meet people. (Check out upcoming SAB events.)
  • You’ll learn valuable lessons.
  • You’ll feel safe. (Learn more about campus security.)
  • It’s easy to get food whenever you want it. (Check out our dining services.)
  • There’s tutoring in the halls (ARC)
  • You get to be responsible for yourself.

Off-Campus Housing
Students have numerous options of finding accommodation off-campus in nearby areas. Students can have access to studio apartments, paying guest facilities, sharing apartment complexes and many more.

The University of St. Francis offers a highly regarded bachelor’s degree program in accounting.

As an Accounting major, you’ll learn the language of business– to think critically and to measure, process, and communicate financial information. You’ll also learn to use the software needed to capture and analyze that information. Most importantly, USF will prepare you to enhance the accounting profession through your research skills, leadership and service.

The increase in number of accounting jobs over the next 10 years will be double that of overall job growth, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Accounting majors typically earn some of the highest starting salaries for students with bachelor’s degrees.

An added benefit, seniors who feel inspired to keep studying to obtain an MBA or M.S. degree may take graduate-level courses during their last two semesters for dual undergraduate and graduate credit. That means students can take nine graduate-level credit hours during senior year, and can complete their MBA or M.S. one year after graduating if they attend full time. See course catalog for additional details about the “3 to Degree” program.

I managed to get the scholarship

I know that without it I wouldn't have been able to go to school and I would have had to work even harder to pay off the loans I took out. I was really grateful for the help and I hope others are able to get help from the scholarship.

The ambiance on campus is lively and enjoyable

My teachers' interaction and involvement are outstanding; they are highly helpful and understanding. On their campus, I felt welcomed. The campus was well kept, and the infrastructure was beautiful. The students eat well since the cafeteria offers a wide variety of foods. The library and study rooms were enormous, and the atmosphere was soothing. Small classes with a mix of lectures, lively conversations, and hands-on learning. On campus, there are numerous activities to engage in, including fitness centres, volunteer opportunities, student clubs, and more. Participate in extracurricular activities, become involved in the college community, and make lifelong friends. The college's food courts offer freshly prepared meals.

 Variety of clubs and organizations

My experiences with the college's faculty and staff have been outstanding. However, I would rate the class as outstanding. The professor was always willing to help in and out of the classroom. Overall, a terrific college with a variety of clubs and organizations to join to help you fit in. Academically, you'll be OK, and you'll have a wide range of subjects to choose from. Because of the small class sizes, I was able to become quite involved in my lessons. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was relaxing. My roommate was a fantastic person who was always up for a good time. Some of the people I met became lifelong friends for me. The staff in the cafe is quite pleasant.

I had a nice time studying there.

My experience at my university was great. The faculty were very helpful and were always on standby to help anyone who needed aid. Not to mention that the university's curriculum was very industry-oriented. This was one of the reasons why I was able to land a job with the company that I wanted after my graduation. The faculty and the curriculum were top-notch, the campus was beautiful and the dorms were good. It would not have been possible for me to gain so much success in such a short amount of time if I was not in this university. There was a lot of co-curricular activities on campus, which helped me explore new things, interact with new people and make new friends.
