A University of New Haven education means power," says Caroline Consorte ’16, ’17 MBA, a staff accountant at Marcum, one of the largest independent public accounting and advisory services firms in the nation. "It helps you prepare for the career you desire, and it helps you create connections in the community that can help you get there.

Accountants have the critical task of providing a comprehensive picture of a company’s financial health so that business owners can make informed decisions that directly impact their company’s bottom line. That is why the field of accounting is a breeding ground for business leaders. In fact, John D. Rockefeller, widely considered the wealthiest American of all time and the richest person in modern history, starting working at age 16 as an accountant. Today, more than half of Fortune 100 CEOs have a degree in business, economics, or accounting.

As an accounting major at the University of New Haven, you’ll participate in a well-rounded education that goes beyond the numbers. You’ll learn how to impart technologically-driven insight and even solve white-collar crimes.

The program offers three tracks. You will choose one of the following:

  • Financial accounting: This is the track if you want to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Corporate accounting: You’ll develop the skills necessary to thrive in the corporate environment and become a CMA (Certified Management Accountant).
  • Forensic accounting: Focus on financial crimes, including investigation and white-collar crime, through coursework in accounting and through the world-renowned Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences.

The ultimate goal of economics is to improve the quality of life for all, but the ultimate reality of economics is that the resources to do that are limited. Choices and trade-offs are, therefore, a given. Where do we direct those limited resources? What are we willing to give up in order to make something else happen? It’s a complicated balance, and it’s the job of an economist to guide informed decision making. Because of the magnitude of this work, salaries for economics graduates are among the highest of any discipline.

The University of New Haven’s B.A. in Economics provides a balanced curriculum of liberal arts, business, and industry management, alongside history and politics. This gives you the big-picture viewpoint and detailed knowledge you need to make decisions for the greater good, and to assist others in doing the same.

You will pick one of these concentrations:
  • General Economics: Provides a broad view of economic principles.
  • Behavioral Economics: Focuses on game theory, behavior, and decision making under uncertainty.

I'm a student who was able to receive a scholarship from my colleges which would not have been possible without the help of the financial aid department. I'm very grateful for their assistance.

Amazing scholarships available

I had a great time. The campus atmosphere is welcoming, and the class schedule is flexible. The professors are friendly and knowledgable, and the hands-on instruction provides excellent learning chances. Everyone I've met has been incredibly supportive of my academic and extracurricular endeavors. The campus is stunning. The teachers and staff are quite efficient, and they are always willing to assist you if you need it. The college is doing its best to financially help its students by offering scholarships and rewards. I had a great time in college, and everyone there is quite helpful.

Professors are approachable

There are plenty of smart facilities in all of the classrooms in the academic building. The student's placement will depend on their academic performance. The college emphasizes learning by doing, and the curriculum is designed to ensure that each semester, students complete a project in which they apply what they have learned in class. Professors are extremely approachable at this college. Students at this institution come from a wide range of backgrounds, and the institution as a whole is enriched by this diversity. Bright classroom

It was a wonderful experience. It is very helpful to have a faculty that is highly supportive and helpful to the students. The college has all the necessary infrastructure, facilities, and equipment. The campus accommodation is well-kept, with good food and fast Internet access. Classrooms are large and bright, with plenty of natural light. Students and instructors are both extremely supportive. The campus life is great; it has a large open area, a basketball court, a cafeteria, and a gym. However, I am most impressed with the number of clubs on campus and the variety of activities offered. There are career fairs and email support for cvs, which is helpful.

My experience at my university was really good.

The faculty members were really helpful, with most of them going an extra mile to make sure that I understood each of the concepts. They would provide extra assignments and courses if I needed extra help. The campus had everything a student could ever need, with many extracurricular activities available almost every day. My curriculum was completely industry oriented, so it was easy to find a job right after I completed my course. The financial aid seemed to be well organized too.
