Broad in its application yet focused on clear training goals, the master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology provides students with the theory and skills to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of biomedical research. Students gain hands-on training in the laboratory skills most desired by today’s bioscience employers, and they have the option to either complete a research thesis project under the guidance of a departmental faculty member or to choose a non-thesis option that culminates in a capstone.

Students also have the opportunity to join active faculty-led research groups, tackling important questions in cancer biology, virology and vaccine design, microbial pathogenesis, DNA damage and repair, and embryonic development. Graduates from our program are well trained and have gone on to successful careers in research and development at biotech start-ups and in technical positions at large pharmaceutical companies. The Master of Science in Human Resources is designed to prepare professionals to advance their careers in the field of human resources. The program emphasizes the strategic role that human resources plays in the achievement of a firm’s competitive strategy, while providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective human resource leaders. Specific focus will be on the emerging set of human resource competencies and skills needed to navigate the evolving human resources field including globalization, diversity and inclusion, corporate social responsibility, and strategic leadership.

Students will examine each of the major human resources functional areas including recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee relations, change management, and learning and development. Students will also learn about key human resource processes, human resource analytics, and the set of skills needed to be a strategic business partner with an organization’s business lines and other enabling functions.

This program requires 36 graduate credits: 21 credits from core courses, 12 credits from one of three concentrations, and 3 credits from a restricted elective.

Through this interdisciplinary major, you’ll take courses in political science, economics, national security, legal studies, and history, studying conflict, development, and diplomacy. You will examine the resolutions of international conflicts, the role of inequality as a cause of conflict – and a critical component of its resolution – and explore post-conflict peace-making. You’ll do all this while learning from professors who have extensive international experience.

As an International Affairs major, you will also:

• Explore post-conflict reconstruction, foreign policy, and the international political economy
• Focus your studies on regions of rapid social change and economic development

The International Business - Economics degree is designed to provide in-depth expertise in the discipline of economics while it concurrently provides students with a broader, global business perspective. Such perspective is essential to operating in today’s increasing complex multi-national business context. The program ensures students have a proficiency in a second language, enhanced socio-cultural awareness and a robust study abroad experience. Today’s business climate is marked by fluid and interconnected financial markets, widely available technological advancements that increase global connectivity, increased international trade, and the emergence of vibrant growing economies in what were formerly considered third world countries. Increased globalization has necessitated that managers have a broad, holistic perspective that incorporates the diverse components of an international business degree. Such a degree will become increasingly valuable as the trends associated with 21st century commerce progress.

• Students will evaluate how the cultural and legal differences between the country in which they studied abroad and the U.S. would impact how they operate in that country.
• Students earning a B.S. degree in international business - economics are required to complete 121 credits, including the university core curriculum (41 credits) and the business program core (30 credits).    Further clarification and additional requirements are outlined below:

Marketing exists all throughout the world around us, and has many roles in business. Behind the every great concept or product is a creative mind helping to market it and promote to the masses. As a marketing major at the University of New Haven you’ll complement a strong foundation in the principles of business by specializing in how e-commerce and marketing technologies such as social media, database marketing, Google AdWords, and data mining have impacted – and forever changed – the traditional study and practice of marketing

Students earning a B.S. degree in marketing are required to complete 121 credits, including the university core curriculum (40 credits) and the business program core (30 credits).    Further clarification and additional requirements are outlined below:

Make the Switch!
An additional feature of the program caters to those wishing to switch fields into the computer science realm. We have prepared a set of six bridge courses to help you transition from your previous background to a level of readiness that enables you to successfully pursue the rest of the degree program. Some of our best students began their journey in this manner and we encourage you to join them.

If you enjoy studying the human body and using exercise to promote health and wellness, exercise science may be the ideal major for you. Our Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science provides a strong foundation that includes coursework in anatomy, exercise physiology, and biomechanics. You will take a wide range of courses to prepare you to pursue a variety of opportunities in the health care, fitness, and wellness industries by learning to:

• Evaluate health behaviors and risk factors
• Conduct fitness assessments
• Develop and implement safe and effective exercise prescriptions
• Learn and use motivational strategies to guide people in behavioral change

Other major requirements offer insights into nutrition, business, and other facets of exercise science while allowing you to apply that knowledge in practical experiences working with clients, students, and others.

In addition, the School of Health Sciences core curriculum will provide you a broad, interdisciplinary understanding of how prevention, health policy, and person-centered care affect all health professionals.

Our Exercise Science major will give you the knowledge and skills to work in the medical and health science fields in such areas as corporate wellness, rehabilitation, sports performance, fitness, and recreation.

We will prepare you to excel in this ever-evolving industry, which comprises game publishers, athletes, coaches, trainers, publicists, broadcasters, the media platforms the games are streamed on, brands that sponsor the teams, and, of course, the fans.

Our academic partnerships with major esports and gaming entities such as Twitch and HyperX ensure that you’re at the cutting edge of industry trends and learning. Since new technologies and games are always just around the corner, the industry requires people who can think critically and anticipate future cultural, business, and technological changes and opportunities. Pick an interdisciplinary concentration
What makes our program in Esports and Gaming unique is its truly interdisciplinary nature. In addition to core classes in businesses, our unique concentrations enable you to take courses in the School of Health Sciences, the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, and the Tagliatela College of Engineering.

• Corruption and Gambling Concentration. You will learn to evaluate how competitors are coerced into behaving corruptly and how to explain the effects of organized crime on gambling in esports.
• Game Studies Concentration: You will learn how to develop a game narrative using contemporary gaming techniques and how to analyze games for dimensions of social responsibility.
• Esports Performance and Health Concentration. You will learn to assess health factors that impact esports participants’ overall potential performance and how to implement behavioral strategies that promote health among esports competitors.

Candidates are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits of graduate work, which may include an internship in national security. Transfer credit from other institutions may be permitted subject to the Graduate School policy on transfer credit detailed elsewhere in this catalog.

Students in the program are required to complete 18 credits of core courses and 18 credits of general electives.  Students must complete a capstone requirement of either NSPS 6693 - National Security Internship I or NSPS 6697 Thesis I and  NSPS 6698 Thesis II. If the six credit thesis option is selected, NSPS 6698  Thesis II will count toward electives.
