About British Columbia Institute of Technology - Downtown Campus

The British Columbia Institute of Technology is a public post-secondary institute known for its advanced technical education. Established in 1964, the institute’s main campus is situated in Burnaby, with four other sites at the Aerospace Technology Campus, Marine Campus, Annacis Island Campus, Downtown Vancouver Campus, and ten satellite locations. BCIT has more than 5,500 international students from 120 different countries, making it a multicultural and safe place to study in Canada.

The institute offers a range of bachelor's and master's degree programs along with certificates and diplomas in Applied & Natural Sciences, Engineering, Business and Media, Computing & IT, Health Sciences, and Trades & Apprenticeships.

BCIT was the first in the region to offer a Biochemistry and Forensic Science dual honours degree. It is known for being the largest institute in Western Canada for trades and apprenticeship courses and is the only institute in Western Canada to offer the Prosthetics and Orthotics training program.

Students studying here receive hands-on practical experience while pursuing their education. Small class sizes and collaborations with industry partners allow students to graduate with industry-ready abilities to succeed in the real world. Students also get a competitive advantage over graduates from other institutes by participating in project-based learning, applied internships, and research.

Services and Facilities

BCIT provides a variety of facilities and services to its students, making it an immediate choice among students. These services are intended to make students feel at ease while at college. Some of the services offered include on-campus health and physical wellness services, services for mental health and wellness, services in sports and recreation, accessibility services for students' association, program of community service, services for indigenous and international students, learning skills program with peer tutoring and centre for reading and writing.


Institute offers both off-campus and on-campus accommodation to international students. The rooms are well-equipped with all the needed facilities including a single bed, mattress, bookshelf, desk lamp, mirror, closet, dresser, desk, chair.


BCIT offers need-based bursaries and emergency grants in addition to merit-based entry and academic grants and scholarships. Students can apply for a scholarship on the basis of their achievements for remarkable performance, contribution to school activities, and leadership qualities, etc.

Admission to the British Columbia Institute of Technology - Downtown Vancouver campus is subject to specific requirements, and the eligibility requirements vary as per the program a student applies to. However, there are certain standard requirements that every student should keep in mind before applying to the institute:

  • Students should be at least 18 years old before taking admission.
  • Students should be proficient in English and must have taken proficiency tests like IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or other equivalent exams.
  • Students need to submit their original transcripts (translated if the originals are not in English) from all the academic institutions they have attended.
