About Coast Mountain College - Smithers Campus
As a post-secondary institution serving BC's beautiful Northwest region, Coast Mountain College, previously Northwest Community College, is an accredited institution. It was founded in 1975 as North West Community College (NWCC) in Terrace and was renamed CMTN in 2018. Hazelton, Haida Gwaii, Queen Charlotte, Prince Rupert, Smithers, and Terrace are among the college's six regional campuses in British Columbia.
Smithers is a vibrant and pleasant alpine town nestled in the Bulkley Valley. The Smithers campus is connected to its surroundings. The Rocky Mountains and magnificent landscapes are all connected to the area's rich cultures.
In Smithers, Coast Mountain College provides a wide range of full-time programs, including university courses, diploma and certificate programs in business and the social and human sciences. Students’ objectives to upgrade or get their adult degree are supported by flexible job and college preparation courses. Short-term continuing studies, online and workforce-ready certificates are offered too.
Services & Facilities
The campus has a huge meeting area as well as bright learning spaces. It provides a choice of instructor-led and online courses using innovative technologies such as video conferencing and distance education capabilities. Classrooms, wet and dry scientific labs, a multi-purpose shop for trades programmes, a library and bookstore, a computer lab, and one flexible-use lab are among the facilities available.
Coast Mountain College's staff and students now have access to a bright, modern fitness centre on campus. The CMTN Wellness Centre is a fantastic place to get some exercise. Showers and lockers are available in the toilets, which are located across from the entrance.
When travelling to and from CMTN's campuses, parking and public transportation are both affordable options. On-campus dining is available; check out the daily cafeteria menu, which is prepared and served by exceptional Professional Cook students. Alternatively, meet up with friends for a cup of coffee at the Cedar Café.
Accommodation
Coast Mountain College is glad to provide excellent accommodation for students and visitors. On-campus, CMTN provides well-equipped housing for its students. It has a housing complex that accommodates both single and family students. They provide fully furnished apartments to their students. Every unit also comes with a kitchenette with basic cooking appliances.
Coast Mountain College has an off-campus living facility and an apartment locator. Students can arrive on time and hunt for a room, an apartment flat, or a studio apartment in the College’s proximity. The college student associations assist students in finding off-campus housing and navigating the process.
Scholarships
Student achievement at Coast Mountain College is encouraged through reducing financial burdens and rewarding success through the CMTN Awards, Bursaries, and Scholarships program, thanks to the generosity of contributors. Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships are available for part-time and full-time students.

Admissions
Admission to Coast Mountain College - Smithers Campus is dependent on meeting certain criteria, which vary depending on the program to which a student applies.
- Student should be at least 18 years before taking admission
- Student should be proficient in English and must have taken IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or other equivalent exams
- Students are required to submit their original transcripts from all the academic institutions they have attended. If the transcripts are not in English, then students need to submit translated copies of the same along with the originals.
