About University of Northern British Columbia Northwest Campus

The University of Northern British Columbia, founded in June 1990, is a research-intensive university associated with  the International Association of Universities, Universities in Canada, U Sports, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the University of the Arctic in British Columbia. UNBC is one of Canada's best small institutes, located in the beautiful environment of northern British Columbia.


The Northwest campus boasts beautiful mountains, flowing rivers, and rare animals such as the Kermode bear. Terrace Campus and Prince Rupert Campus are the two campuses in the Northern British Columbia region. University of Northern British Columbia students can attend either campus.

Housing at UNBC is more than simply a place to live during the school year; it's a convenient, safe, and welcoming community. The buildings, Neyoh and Keyoh, house approximately 500 students and provide fully furnished apartment-style living less than a five-minute walk from the core of campus.

The University of Northern British Columbia offers various scholarships to students with a grade point average of 75 percent or higher. UNBC also provides grants and bursaries to help students with their expenses while also providing them with recognition for their outstanding performance.

From six graduates in 1994 to nearly 16,000 now, the UNBC alumni group has risen significantly. The institute is tremendously proud of its alumni, who are making a positive difference in communities across the country and around the world as leaders. Notable alumni James Moore (Member of Parliament and Conservative Cabinet Member), Currie Dixon, (Yukon Legislative Assembly Member), Sonya Salomaa (Renowned actress), Shirley Bond (Canadian politician).

Admission to the University of Northern British Columbia - Northwest Campus is dependent on meeting specific criteria, which vary depending on the program to which a student applies.

  • Students should be at least 18 years old before taking admission.
  • Students should be proficient in English and must have taken IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, MELAB, PTE, or other equivalent exams.
  • Students are required to submit their original transcripts from all the academic institutions they have attended. If the transcripts are not in English, then students need to submit translated copies of the same along with the originals.
