About Vanier College

Vanier College is a publicly-funded college that teaches English language in Montreal. When Vanier College officially opened its doors on September 8, 1970, it welcomed around 1,400 students from its inaugural cohort. The college was named in commemoration of General Georges P. Vanier, who was a Canadian soldier, diplomat, and former Governor General of Canada. Adapted from the Vanier family coat of arms, the Vanier College crest represents the institution.

The Continuing Education Department at the Vanier College offers credit Diploma of College Studies (DCS) courses and Attestation of College Studies (ACS) programmes, as well as non-credit courses and programmes. The College continues to offer full-time pre-university programmes and technical career programmes leading to a Diploma of College Studies (DCS). One of the most distinguishing characteristics of Vanier College has always been its varied student body, which includes students from all ethnic origins and from every continent who are members of the College community.

Vanier College, located on a lush green patch of land in the Borough of Saint-Laurent in the City of Montreal, was established on land and buildings purchased by the government from the Soeurs de Sainte-Croix, who had previously operated a convent (Couvent Notre-Dame-des-Anges) and a private women's college (Collège Basile-Moreau) in the area. In order to meet the ever-changing demands of postsecondary education, these facilities have undergone extensive modifications throughout the years.

Full-time pre-university programmes and technical career programmes leading to a Diploma of College Studies (DCS) are still available at Vanier College, while the Continuing Education Department offers credit Diploma of College Studies (DCS) courses and Attestation of College Studies (ACS) programmes, in addition to noncredit courses and programmes.
