About Confederation College of Applied Arts and Technology

Offering more than 60 programs in their three schools- School of Business, hospitality and Trades; School of Aviation, Engineering Technology and Trades and School of Health and Community Services, Confederation College has had a record of giving all its national and international students an exceptional education and training ever since it was established in the year 1967 in Thunder Bay.

The small size of classes with a low student-faculty ratio, world-class equipment in their laboratories and classrooms, state of the art facilities for its 7000+ students, which also comprises of international students from over 30 countries, in-class learning modules and practical work placements in different industries gives all its graduates a fantastic and highly rewarding experience of learning clubbed with on the job experience employers look for, making them thoroughly ready for the extensive job market.

The college is one of the twenty-four publicly funded colleges in Ontario and has over ninety per cent of its graduates gaining employment within six months of their graduation.  The staff continually strives to make a student’s stay and experience at Confederation College highly satisfying and rewarding, working hard to give him the best cultural, social and academic experiences.

Surrounded by beautiful gardens, a river, and a network of walking pathways, the main campus of Confederation College is built on 130 acres of park-like terrain in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The college is credited with being the first educational institution in Ontario to have a comprehensive student mental health and well-being strategy. It houses the college's School of Aviation as well as the offices of the Student Union. In addition, Dryden, Marathon, Sioux Lookout, Fort Frances, Kenora, Red Lake, Geraldton, and Wawa all have Confederation College of Canada regional campuses.

International students can take advantage of both on-campus and off-campus resources at Confederation College.

The Thunder Bay campus is solely responsible for students who choose to live on campus and provides a variety of housing options with varied amenities. The housing charges include a furnished suite, internet access, common area lounges, and an outdoor barbeque area.

International students have access to a number of off-campus housing alternatives in Canada as well. Students can choose from options like Studio flats, paid guest facilities, and shared housing complexes.

Confederation College’s Business Administration – Human Resources three-year diploma program continues where the two-year Business – Human Resources program leaves off. As with that program you’ll learn about accounting, marketing essentials, training, human rights in employment, business law & ethics and information systems. You’ll also take advanced courses covering statistics, grievance procedures & arbitration and international human resources. Your last semester will be dedicated to a work placement so that you get real-world experience that will give you an even bigger advantage on the job market.

Confederation College’s Business – Marketing two-year diploma program places emphasis on learning key skills as well as developing a business work ethic that will assist you in getting ready to enter this exciting field. Marketing is all about analyzing customer needs and wants and building customer relationships. You will build on your existing strengths and learn how to communicate effectively, conduct market research and analyze those results to make strategic decisions. As a marketing student, you will develop your ability to work as a member of a team, as well as strengthen your research and creative problem solving skills. Confederation College’s Electronics Engineering Technician – Computers two-year diploma program will give you the foundation you need to find a job in this growing field. You’ll learn about electronics and computer fundamentals, applied mathematics, telecommunications, networks, automation control systems and computer software.

Our world is becoming more automated all of the time. Building control systems, manufacturing processes, industrial robotics, power generation and distribution, and thousands of other processes.

They all rely on electrical equipment and digital processes to keep them operating properly and communicating to each other. But it still takes a person to design, program, install and maintain all of that equipment. Could that person be you?

Confederation College’s Electrical Engineering Technology advanced three-year diploma program is an advanced program of study that places special emphasis on computerized electronic control applications using state-of-the-art DCS, PLCs, drive systems, as well as today’s leading panel and PC-based SCADA/HMI packages. You’ll learn about electronics and computer fundamentals, applied mathematics, telecommunications, networks, automation control systems, process control systems and power systems.

Confederation College of Applied Arts and Technology Admission Requirements

Confederation College has different eligibility requirements for different courses. However, some requirements are common for every student:

  • The student must be at least 18 years of age at the time of admission.
  • The student from a non-English speaking country must take IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or other equivalent exams to prove their language proficiency.
  • The student needs to provide original transcripts from all the previously attended academic institutions before making any application request (If the original transcripts are not in English, students need to submit the translated copies of the same and their originals).

The campus boasts hundreds of mature trees. The McIntyre River runs through the campus. The buildings are located along the riverbank, with the older buildings at the east end of the campus. The view from each and every corner is beautiful.

My experience at Confederation College was a great one. The campus is beautiful and full of lovely people. I had a lot of fun, the campus was beautiful and the people were very nice. I met a lot of great people from all around the world and most of them are now my alumni network. I had a great experience with professors most of them were very helpful and knowledgeable. Professors are well educated and experienced. They conduct classes in a way that is easy to understand. So I'd say Confederation College is the place to be if you want to have good fun and learn a lot about what you want to do for your future. I strongly recommend this campus for commerce students.
