    About Marine Institute

Situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and a campus of the Memorial University of Newfoundland, the Fisheries and Marine Institute is one of the most inclusive and the most respected center for training, industrial support, applied research and education for the ocean industries in the world.

Marine Institution has three schools-The School of Maritime Studies, The School of Ocean Technology and The School of Fisheries and provides the students with more than 20 programs ranging from graduate, undergraduate, advanced diplomas, diplomas, technical certificates to short courses and industrial response programs. The students learn in a collaborative environment where the classes are small and hands-on instruction is an essential medium of teaching, and all the courses are designed in a way to equip the students with the skills and knowledge required for their success in the real job world.

Home to the largest flume tank where tests on newly developed fishing equipment is done in simulated underwater and new surface conditions and the most up-to-date full-mission simulator complex including a full motion ship’s bridge simulator system, the Marine Institute also has a food pilot plant used to develop new food products, an aquaculture facility with salt and fresh water systems and an Offshore Survival and Safety Centre with an Environmental Theatre and a Helicopter Underwater Escape Trainer that can efficiently simulate waves, rain and wind.
