About Marine Institute
The Marine Institute is a part of the Memorial University of Newfoundland and is situated at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It is one respected centre for training, applied research, industrial support, and education for the oceans industries in the world.
The institute offers undergraduate and graduate degree and diploma programs to national and international students. It has three schools – the School of Maritime Studies, The School of Fisheries and the School of Ocean Technology. The School of Fisheries provides over 20 undergraduate and graduate diplomas, short courses, advanced diplomas, short courses, and industrial response programs.
The institute provides a collaborative environment with small class sizes where hands-on instruction is provided as an essential medium of teaching. All courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to excel in the professional world.
Services and Facilities
Fisheries and Marine Institute is home to a large flume tank for conducting tests on newly developed fishing equipment in simulated underwater and new surface conditions. The institute also has the most up-to-date full-mission simulator complex including a motion ship’s bridge simulator system. The marine institute also houses a food pilot plant to develop new food products and aquaculture facility with salt and fresh water systems and an offshore survival and safety centre with an environmental theatre and a helicopter underwater escape trainer that can efficiently simulate waves, rain and wind.
Accommodation
Students of Fisheries and Marine Institute can live on the Memorial University Campus, 2.5 kilometers from the former. With 24/7 security, campus enforcement, and a team of people trained in medical and mental health first aid, students can feel at home. Labs, dining spaces, libraries, group activities, sports and events make student life on campus exciting and fun.
