About Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT)
The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, also known as NAIT is situated in Edmonton, Alberta and offers education to over 1500 students from about 90 countries enrolled in one of its 140 credit programs and has its primary focus on meeting the current and the future needs for polytechnic education and research in Alberta. With an average class size of about 20 students, NAIT is one of the largest trainers in Canada offering 34 apprenticeship trades to its national and international students.
The credit programs offered by NAIT are in diverse fields related to science, environmental studies, business, technology, health and trades and apprenticeship training, leading to degrees, diplomas, applied degrees or certificates. Northern Alberta Institute of Technology offers an easy way for students to create flexible class schedules so that it is easy for them to manage their work, studies and family lives. They can get themselves enrolled in credit or non-credit courses and can take either online, fulltime or part-time classes towards their certificate, diploma or degrees.
The main campus of NAIT, located in Edmonton, offers most of the full-time courses in areas related to Information Technology, Engineering technologies and Hospitality.
Scholarship
Northern Alberta Institute of Technology offers scholarships to international students who are enrolled in their second, third, or fourth year of a credit program have displayed outstanding academic achievement in their previous year. The scholarships are to the tune of $2500, and the applicants must hold a minimum GPA of 2.7. The awards are:
- International Health and Life Sciences
- International Business
- International Skilled Trades
- International Applied Sciences
Another available scholarship is the International Community Builder Scholarship for the students who have shown high involvement in the campus clubs or volunteering activities. The scholarship is offered to international students who are enrolled in their second, third, or fourth year of a credit program have displayed outstanding academic achievement in their previous year. The scholarships are to the tune of $2500, and the applicants must hold a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Apart from these, International students can apply for any scholarship available at NAIT, and that doesn’t say “Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents only.”

Admissions Requirements
The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology
- International students are considered on case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
- Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
- Should provide the certificate issued by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) that compares educational credentials from other countries to educational standards in Canada.
- Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
- You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.
Please note: If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you must obtain a valid study permit before you come to Canada.
