About Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT)

Northern Alberta Institute of Technology is a government-run institution founded in 1962. For the past 50 years, the institute has provided quality higher education in Canada to students. With 3,633 full-time students, the campus was officially launched in 1963 and currently has over 16,000 students, with about 1900 of them hailing from 88 different countries. The institute provides both full-time and part-time education in a variety of subjects. 

The Centre for Applied Technology, the Productivity and Innovation Centre, and the HP Centre are all located on the university's main campus. The Patricia Campus is home to the NAIT School of Skilled Trades, which offers a variety of programs. The institution's Crane & Hoisting Equipment Operator apprentice programs are held on the Spruce Grove Campus, while apprenticeship training programs are held on the South Campus.

NAIT believes in providing practical information as well, and for that, it has 64 industry partners. Students at the institute have received an average of 98 percent employer satisfaction.

Services and Facilities

Northern Alberta Institute of Technology has four campuses, three of which are located in Edmonton and one in Spruce Grove. Students can have a comfortable life on these campuses since they provide a safe academic atmosphere. 

Students participate in a range of NAIT clubs, events, venues, and resources to become more involved in the community. Students Joining a campus club can help them get more out of their post-secondary education. Clubs are a fantastic way for students to meet new people, have fun, and pursue their passions.

Students receive assistance with adjusting to life in Canada, programme advice, peer mentoring, immigration help, and newcomer counselling. 

Accommodation

Students of Northern Alberta Institute of Technology can avail the housing facility at the University of Alberta and MacEwan University campus housing. There are furnished and unfurnished houses on campus. Students have access to study rooms, fitness and recreation facilities, free wireless internet, dining and grocery options, laundry service, parking, and much more in all of the apartments. Northern Alberta Institute of Technology's campus is a train or bus trip away from the university dormitories.

The three resident halls accessible on the Alberta Campus are Napisy House, Newton Place, and Hub, whereas MacEwan University offers a double bedroom, four bedrooms, bachelor's suite with magnificent amenities.

Scholarships

Each year, NAIT awards over $6 million in scholarships and bursaries to over 4,000 students. Other requirements, such as volunteer work, may be considered depending on the specific scholarship. Academic proficiency is the most essential factor in selecting scholarship candidates.

Admissions

NAIT has different eligibility requirements for different courses. However, some requirements are common for every student:

  • The student must be at least 18 years of age at the time of admission.
  • The student from a non-English speaking country must take IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or other equivalent exams to prove their language proficiency.
  • The student needs to provide original transcripts from all the previously attended academic institutions for applying. (If the original transcripts are not in English, students need to submit the translated copies of the same with the original documents).
