We recognize that success in the arts is being redefined in the 21st century, and that the skills needed to be a successful artist extend beyond the studio, stage, and performance hall. An innovative mind, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for the arts are all essential for success. These principles are not just exclusive to artists, but serve all students well, no matter where their career leads them. This program is offered by the LEAP Institute for the Arts, a special academic unit of Colorado State University’s College of Liberal Arts.

The Biochemistry major provides a student with a strong, well-balanced background in the biological, physical, and mathematical sciences. As a Biochemistry major, studies include macromolecular structure and function; cellular biochemistry; metabolism; gene expression, DNA and protein structure, DNA replication and repair; cell organization, communication, growth, aging, and death. Students are also required to take courses in physics, organic chemistry, and statistical measurements and methods used in research. Independent study and internships (typically during the junior and senior years, but could start in the freshman year) provide opportunities for experiential learning and working closely with the faculty, sometimes leading to authorship of original publications.

Finance - Concentration
Every business has a distinct set of resources to consider — such as raw materials, human resources, products, or marketing — but everyone has one unifying resource they need to manage before they can pursue any of their goals: money.

By studying finance at the CSU College of Business, you’ll learn how to measure and analyze the ways that organizations grow and help them navigate through risks and toward success. If you’re interested in understanding how all the functions of a business are tied together and are a passionate problem-solver, a concentration in finance allows you to put your interests to work.

The History major is designed for students to expand their knowledge about the past, improve their ability to think logically and critically, and sharpen their powers of written and oral expression. History provides a rich background for learning abroad, studying languages, government, law, medicine, and beyond, and History majors at CSU come out with a well-rounded education that opens doors in almost any career field. The Major and Minor in History at CSU offer students courses that encompass human history around the world, as well as several distinct features linked to our history as Colorado’s Morrill Act land-grant university. We have led in the creation of graduate public history programs, and now have an undergraduate concentration in Digital and Public History, as well as concentrations in General History, Language, and Social Studies Teaching.

Our History majors work in many different careers in public history in museums, archives, state and local government agencies in historic preservation and cultural resources management, the National Park Service and Forest Service, and consulting; they work in schools as teachers and administrators; they work in public service; and they are prepared for graduate and professional school in a variety of fields. We offer internships in many of these fields for CSU credit to help students explore their interests in history.

Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management is a unique department among U.S. land grant universities, encompassing the disciplines of entomology, plant pathology, and weed science.

It’s no secret that knowing other languages opens doors to a world of opportunities. This major offers undergraduate instruction in 10 languages, concentrations in French, German and Spanish, and opportunities for education abroad. You’ll gain the ability to communicate in another tongue, but also to analyze literary texts and films, to understand the workings of language, to appreciate diversity and to interact successfully across cultures.

Upon completion of the program of study, students will demonstrate:

• Communicative oral skills in the target language, including grammatical accuracy, correct use of tense, fluency, appropriate intonation, suitable vocabulary and discourse devices for expressing opinions or when giving research presentations.
• Communicative writing skills in the target language, including clarity of ideas, grammatical accuracy and appropriate vocabulary, adequate elaboration of ideas through a variety of sentence structures and vocabulary, and logical flow of ideas through the use of discourse organizational devices.
• Analytical skill in literary and cultural texts of the target language, including ability to formulate and present a topic of inquiry, to critically analyze the topic with valid supporting evidence, and to cogently synthesize and summarize the ideas in bibliographical sources and the results of their own analytical inquiry.
• Increased sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural and linguistic differences.

Public interest regarding the importance of nutrition to health and fitness is at a high level and increasing. The Major in Nutrition and Food Science involves integration of the biological, medical, and social sciences and their application to the improvement of human nutrition and fitness, prevention of chronic disease, and improved quality of life. The major is both science- and human service-oriented.

Nutrition and Food Science graduates gain a scientific understanding of the principles of human nutrition, the role of nutrition in the prevention and management of disease, delivery of nutritional care, and the principles of nutrition assessment and food preparation. Additionally, graduates know the techniques of interviewing, counseling, information management, and effective communication.

The International Studies major is an interdisciplinary program designed to help you explore and understand the nature of diverse cultures and peoples. You’ll learn a broad range of subjects, all of which contribute to a wide range of job prospects from government, academics, law and foreign service to communications, media, journalism, and beyond. Within the major, you’ll have multiple opportunities to travel, learn languages, and explore cultures around the world. This major includes an accelerated option for students to graduate on a faster schedule.

Latin American Studies - Concentration
This concentration aims to trace the similarities and differences among the Latin American countries, recognizing the historical origins of current conditions. Courses in history, economics, literature, sociology, political science, anthropology, art, and three years of Spanish give students a powerful tool for understanding and interpreting Latin America’s past and present.
