University of Windsor is a public research university located in Windsor. It is Canada's southernmost university and was founded in 1857. The University of Windsor is adjacent to North America's busiest international border crossing and overlooks the stunning waterfront of the Detroit River in Canada. The university is seven kilometers from Downtown Windsor and along the lovely Detroit River. The campus spans over 50 hectares and is attached to a residential neighborhood with restaurants, cafes, and bookstores nearby. It offers students various services and facilities, including a small botanical garden, a vast food court, and the campus bookstore. The campus also provides a variety of recreational and sporting activities for its students, including a weight room and a swimming pool. Near the St. Denis Center, it also contains a student stadium—the institute's primary Leddy Library library houses almost 3 million volumes and other objects. The university offers medium-sized campus houses to more than 900 students where they can choose to live between traditional and suite-style residences. UWindsor has four housing halls for students. Suite-style accommodations and single occupancy rooms are available in Cartier and Alumni Halls. These come with shared kitchen facilities and, in some cases, washrooms within the unit. Traditional rooms can be found in Macdonald Hall and Laurier Hall. Single and double-occupancy rooms, common washrooms, and lounge areas are available in these halls.
