About University of Windsor

University of Windsor is a public research university located in Windsor. It is Canada's southernmost university and was founded in the year 1857. The university offers a variety of certificate, diploma, and degree programmes in areas like Education, Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, Engineering, Law, Nursing, Science, Human Kinetics, Business, and more. It offers 120 undergraduate, 70 graduate, and six professional programs to international students.

The university's research faculty has broadened its focus to include Health, Entrepreneurship, and Natural Science research. The university offers a Ph.D. in Social Justice, a rare subject in Canada, as well as programmes in collaboration with American universities. International students from approximately 100 countries make up nearly a quarter of the total student body, demonstrating the university's cultural diversity. The university has a famous brand among international aspirants seeking to study in Canada. 

Services and Facilities

The university lies around seven kilometers from Downtown Windsor and is along the lovely Detroit River. The campus spans over 50 hectares and is attached to a residential neighborhood with restaurants, cafes, and book stores nearby. It offers students a range of services and facilities, including a small botanical garden, a vast food court, and the campus bookstore. The campus also provides a variety of recreational and sporting activities for its students, including a weight room and a swimming pool. Near the St. Denis Center, it also contains a student stadium. The institute's primary library, the Leddy Library, houses almost 3 million volumes and other objects. Transit WIndsor provides transport service in the area. 

With over 100 student clubs and organizations, the University is focused on creating a vibrant, welcoming campus where you will be able to get involved in the community and make new friends.


The university offers medium-sized campus houses to more than 900 students where they can choose to live between traditional and suite-style residences. UWindsor has four housing halls for students. Suite-style accommodations, which are single occupancy rooms, are available in Cartier and Alumni Halls. These come with common kitchen facilities and, in some cases, washrooms within the unit. Traditional rooms can be found in Macdonald Hall and Laurier Hall. Single and double occupancy rooms, as well as common washrooms and lounge areas, are available in these halls.


The University of Windsor provides many scholarships and bursaries to international students coming to study in Canada based on their previous academic performance. Students studying full-time in the undergraduate programs at UWindsor are eligible for various International Entrance Scholarships. It also offers in-course scholarships, Outstanding Scholar Awards, and need-based bursaries to students.

The University of Windsor has different eligibility requirements for various courses.  There are some common requirements for every student:

  • Students must be 18 years or older at the time of admission.
  • Students coming from non-English speaking countries must have taken either IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or other equivalent exams.
  • The university requires original transcripts from all the academic institutions before accepting any application request. However, if the original transcripts are not in English, students need to submit the translated copies of the same and their originals.
