Camosun College offers students a very different yet interesting course in the field of Comics and Graphic Novel writing. This very unusual yet upmarket course provides students an opportunity to pursue their talent and passion. Students are equipped with a series of skill set and provided insight about creating comic books, graphic novels, web comics and comic strips. This 12 month program leads to a certificate for the students and hence gives them opportunity to work in the said field professionally.

The course has a total of two academic terms and hence in that duration they are taught every knick and knock about comic books and graphic novel writing.  The various courses offered in this certificate include creative writing, character design, structural drawing, perspective drawing and more. Students also display their works at the comic arts festivals and other exhibitions.

In the certificate course students are made familiar with a number of skills such as visual storytelling skills, including scripting, storytelling layout and pencil sketching, inking, lettering, and coloring techniques. Students are also educated about publishing and the tips & tricks of career as a graphic novelist and a comic book writer.

The criminal justice system is an integral part of all of our lives; everyone is touched by crime and the criminal justice system in some way. In the Criminal Justice program, you'll gain a critical understanding of how the criminal justice system works to protect society. With this diploma, you'll be ready for further post-secondary studies or for work as a front-line practitioner within the criminal justice field.

Whether you want to take one or two courses at a time, or register for full-time studies with four or five courses each semester, the University Transfer program gives you the freedom to design your own timetable. Generally speaking, you'll probably start by taking 100-level courses (first-year) and follow up with corresponding 200-level (second-year) courses.

The study of literature opens the door to a world of creative inquiry. Literature helps us to understand who we are, where we came from, and where we're going. Through the richness of literature, we learn to see the world through culturally diverse points of view and explore social, political and historical contexts. Studying the discipline of English will give you excellent skills in reading, analysis, critical thinking and clearly organized writing — talents that will lead to success in any academic or career path.

As an Associate Degree student, you'll explore great literature from some of the earliest writings to modern-day classics. Travelling across genres, periods, and diverse cultural perspectives, English students learn to see the world from different viewpoints.

You will become adept at analyzing information, constructing a solid argument, and writing thoughtfully-constructed academic essays. We offer courses in classic English literature, as well as those that focus on Canadian, American, Indigenous, and Women's literature. You may study novels, plays, poetry, short stories, films and visual texts, as well as non-literary texts. Come read the world with us!

In the Digital Production, Writing and Design program you'll be using digital media tools to create products to be used in a variety of ways, such as advertising and marketing materials and to tell stories using media tools. You'll explore digital video and audio production, web design, digital photography and writing for journalism and the web. Supporting courses in interpersonal communication, communication and technology, and mass media will provide needed background for working in the digital media world.

Work experience option
You have the option of extending your program with an internship to gain real-world experience and connections that will help you start your career in communications. Normally the work term will be scheduled for the summer, following the second academic term.
After completing your work term, you will graduate with a Certificate in Digital Production, Writing and Design - Internship Designation.

What you'll learn
Camosun College offers a two-year associate degree designed to help you pursue a career in social work. Your associate degree will include a a range of integrated courses, including sociology, psychology, women's studies, Indigenous studies, social policy and English.

As an associate degree student, you will have access to excellent academic advice; you'll have a definite learning path, but with room to explore along the way.

Work experience option
Associate Degree programs include either a Co-op or Internship option. Students will gain practical work experience, which may be paid or unpaid, through either a four-month internship or two co-op work terms, available after at least eight courses of academic study.

The hospitality industry is the fastest growing and one of the most successful industries in the world. Camosun College has successfully produced hospitality management graduates who have built a future in hospitality. It is a 2 year long diploma program which also gives the students the opportunity of doing an internship.

Camosun College has a highly reputable Department of Hospitality Management which is hugely accredited to their practical hands on learning experience. Students are provided the required academic experience as well as the required practical experience. The hospitality Diploma includes two years of education about all the important skills and knowledge required in the field. During the first year, students study courses such as business communications, hotel operations, introduction to management and Canadian tourism. In the second year, the diploma becomes a little more specific and students increase their foundation knowledge, develop their leadership skills, learn about hospitality law and complete a second work term.

Camosun offers courses in basic English language skills to get you started. More advanced courses prepare you for further studies at college or university, career programs and professional communication in the Canadian workplace. You can progress rapidly by taking ELD-Level 2 courses at the same time as other college courses. Graduates credit their studies at Camosun for academic success in later college and university programs.

Level 1: ELD level 1 courses are for beginning and pre-intermediate students who have a fundamental and developing knowledge of English.  Emphasis is on development of speaking and listening skills with an introduction to reading comprehension and written composition.
Level 2: ELD level 2 courses focus on the development of advanced academic English language skills needed to gain entry into college-level programs or technical and professional English language skills needed in the Canadian workplace.
