The Master of Engineering Science in Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology is a 2-year full-time postgraduate degree at Australia’s leading engineering faculty. The degree was developed to provide a deeper understanding of geotechnical theory to solve practical problems in areas including soil mechanics, rock mechanics, slope stability, foundation design, earthworks and dam engineering.

This degree is designed for students who already have a four-year accredited engineering degree and want to broaden their job prospects through cross-training, re-training or specialisation. This postgraduate degree will allow you to meet or maintain professional accreditation standards and provide opportunities for continuing professional development.

You’ll work on a complex, open-ended enquiry-based project to develop your systematic approach to a problem. It will require project planning and the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate results proficiently. The completion of the research provides a pathway towards postgraduate research degrees through the development and demonstration of enquiry-based skills.

Students can undertake a five-year full-time double degree leading to the award of the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science (BE (Hons) BSc).

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) provides you with a solid background in mathematics, natural sciences and computing to give you knowledge and skills in whichever specialisation you choose. You'll have the chance to apply yourself to engineering design and enquiry projects, professional engineering practice, and engineering and technical management, as well as conduct research towards your thesis project.

The Bachelor of Science degree allows you to study a wide range of science subjects. You are encouraged to choose a variety of courses in your first year, and later to choose from a broad selection of major options. This gives you time to become more familiar with the different areas of science and to explore possible majors.

The Master of Engineering Science (Structural Engineering) will help you develop advanced professional skills in computational analysis and design of steel, and in reinforced, composite and pre-stressed concrete structures.

It is designed for practising structural engineers and recent graduates planning a career in structural or civil engineering.

You will investigate and gain practical experience in the structural integrity of materials used in buildings, bridges, dams, tunnels, roads, pavements and other structures when exposed to natural phenomena or hostile environments.

The typical two-year program, sitting within the UNSW School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, comprises 16 courses and features complex, open-ended enquiry-based projects as well as many other opportunities to help you become a leader in the field.

The program offers advanced disciplinary knowledge courses in the likes of structural stability, pre-stressed and reinforced concrete design, bridge engineering, advanced materials technology and computational structural mechanics.

In addition, you will develop a systematic approach to solving problems, as well as core project planning skills and the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate results proficiently.

Those with a degree or extensive prior professional experience in a related area can apply for credit of up to 50% of a program.

The UNSW Master of Development Studies is a two-year, full-time interactive degree that provides specialist studies in international development at the local, national and global level. The Master of Engineering Science (Energy Systems) is designed to provide a deep, broad range of knowledge about a variety of energy and power systems.

This postgraduate degree offers a wide range of theoretical and applications-based electives and is ideal for electrical engineers wishing to upgrade their skills in the ever-developing energy engineering sector.

The recent introduction and growth of intelligent power supply systems such as smart grids means that energy systems engineering is experiencing unprecedented growth.

This degree will help you develop skills to meet growing need for engineers who can interface renewable energy generation sources with the conventional electricity grid. You'll also understand the importance of electric motors in everything from smartphones to hybrid cars and satellites.

The UNSW Master of Engineering Science in Petroleum Engineering is a two-year postgraduate degree in the School of Minerals and Energy Resource Engineering. You’ll gain the accreditation for a career in petroleum engineering, the oil and gas industry and other related sectors.  

You’ll explore a broad range of areas related to employment in petroleum engineering including:

This degree explores how environmental science relates to the regulation, economic and social dimensions of environmental policy and management. The Master of Finance is a specialist degree for graduates who have completed a finance major in their undergraduate studies and now want to take on more advanced topics. It has been developed in close consultation with the finance sector and exposes you to the latest thinking and research in finance.

The Master of Public Health/Master of Health Leadership and Management (Extension) double degree will enable you to specialise in both public health and health management and to develop research skills in health management.
