The Law in Society program explores the intimate relationship between law and contemporary societies. The program allows students to study this relationship from an interdisciplinary perspective that may include the philosophic, historic, political, economic and sociological foundations of law. Data science for finance: this is the best way to describe our Master in Quantitative Investment Management (MQIM) program. This one-of-a-kind one-year graduate program will prepare you for a specialized career in quantitative investment management. The program equips graduates with the fundamentals of finance knowledge combined with analytic and programming skills, as well as professional development competencies demanded by the finance industry. 

Quantitative Investment Management integrates tools from finance, economics, applied mathematics, statistics and computer programming to address problems in derivative securities valuation, dynamic investment strategies and risk management. After completing the MQIM you will be qualified for positions such as:

Do you want to explore and understand the impacts of humans on the environment and of the environment on humans? Do you want to learn to use the scientific approach to solve environmental problems?

Navigating the complex issues involved is a challenge that requires a broad range of skills and perspectives pertaining to earth’s environmental system: its biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere. This type of training is brought together at the University of New Brunswick through our interdisciplinary programs in the environmental sciences.

The Faculty of Engineering offers a program leading to a Diploma in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship, administered by the Dr. J. Herbert Smith/ACOA Chair. The mission of the program is to provide undergraduate and continuing education students opportunities to experience the realities of entrepreneurship and management in technology-based businesses and to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in business. The Diploma program consists of three core courses and two electives, totalling 15 credit hours. In selecting courses, students will be advised to develop a curriculum that builds skills in three key areas: business management, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.

Up to twelve credit hours of required courses for the TME diploma can be shared as credit towards a degree. Each department shall determine its own maximum allowable concurrent credit hours, which may be less than, but no greater than twelve credit hours. Students who intend to complete the diploma must obtain both department and TME program approval of the courses which will be applied towards the degree and the diploma.

Applicants are encouraged to apply to the program as early as their first year of study and begin by taking elective courses. A minimum of 80 credit hours completed, or permission of the TME program Chair, is required to enroll in TME core courses.  Applicants who are not full-time students may still apply for the TME Diploma (or enroll in one or more TME courses). These applicants may be requested to submit the following documents along with their TME Diploma Application:

Physics is the most fundamental natural science, It examines basic concepts such as energy, force, and spacetime, and all that derives from these, such as mass, charge, matter and its motion. More broadly, it is the general analysis of nature, conducted in order to understand how the world and universe behave.
Physicists want to really understand how the world works, in every detail and at the deepest level. Physicists study questions facing today’s science and technology and are at the forefront of solutions for instrumentation, measurement techniques, and model development in many areas.

Several recent national surveys have indicated that there is a shortage of physicists in almost all parts of Canada. This situation will become even more acute in the next decade, so physicists will continue to find good jobs.

The Physics program is available as a major, double major, minor or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. The Faculty of Science is one of the university’s oldest faculties and was established when UNB was founded in 1785. Our faculty has an outstanding reputation, both nationally and internationally, and as a student you will be able to benefit from its stellar accomplishments in research and for its acclaimed graduate and nationally-accredited undergraduate degree programs. In the Chemical Engineering program at UNB, you’ll learn how to transform raw materials into useful products while protecting the environment, managing resources, and meeting strict health and safety standards. Chemical Engineering is available as a major in the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program. Two option programs within the technical electives stream are available: Energy Conversion Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.

Earth Sciences is the natural science that deals with Earth, the interior make-up, and superficial features, its formative and destructive pro­cesses, its age, history and development through time.

Geologists are concerned with a diverse range of issues such as the origin, migration and quality of groundwater, river and coastal erosion, desert-dune migration, the origin and evolution of oceans and continents, of mountain ranges, valleys and canyons. Studies concerning the causes and effects of natural hazards, such as those created by land and rockslides, earthquakes, floods and droughts, and volcanic eruptions all fall within the realm of Geology.

The Music minor allows students from all Faculties to study music from the perspectives of theory, history, analysis, and performance. The program creates rich learning experiences for students interested in making music and for those primarily interested in learning about music.

The minor consists of 24 credit hours. Students focusing on performance will take at least 12 ch from performance and theory based courses, while students focusing on the history and appreciation of music will take at least 12 ch from courses in those areas.

Why Music at UNB?
With the minor in Music at UNB, students interested in music can group a variety of music courses into a cohesive program focusing on either music theory and performance, or music history and appreciation. Students intending to pursue careers in the arts will benefit from this addition to their degree.

Hands-on learning
Students in the Music minor can receive up to 3 credit hours toward their degree by pursuing private music lessons, and up to 3 credit hours for participation in the UNB Concert Band or UNB Chorale.

The degree of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) is offered through the Faculty of Science in partnership with the New Brunswick Community College in Saint John (NBCC-SJ). Enrolment will be limited and based on availability of seats in the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program at NBCC-SJ. Students may enter the program only with approval from the Dean of Science or the program Director.

The BMLS degree requires completion of the MLT program either prior to or after completion of 84 credit hours of courses at UNB. For graduation, students must have completed the UNB portion of the degree as well as 2.5 years of the MLT program at NBCC-SJ and have passed the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) exams required for professional practice.
