Areas of specialization

• Concentration in Venture Commercialization, Scaling, and Investment: UNB's Faculty of Management is a hub for entrepreneurial learning. Work with a real-life start-up and learn how to launch a business; then work with real venture capitalists to learn how to assess whether a start-up is investment-ready.
• Concentration in Management Analytics: Increased digitization is drastically changing the way organizations operate, creating a huge need for graduates who are tech savvy and capable of making sense of the vast amount of data available. Comparative Cultural Studies invites students to pursue the study of cultural expressions as significant ways we make meaning of our world. Through critical comparative analysis of culture with a global perspective, we can begin to understand the relationships between ourselves and others around the world. 

Why Comparative Cultural Studies at UNB?
Comparative Cultural Studies is an interdisciplinary program. This means it draws its subject matter and its approaches from a range of areas: literary studies, languages, cultural studies, media and film studies, art history, music studies, etc. Additionally, its focus is international & comparative. You learn about culture(s) and arts across time and geographic regions, in a wide variety of contexts and representations.

The Film Studies Minor offers students from all faculties the opportunity to study film (and video) from a variety of perspectives, including theory, history, and analysis, as well as a range of topics around national cinemas and genres, among others. In addition, students have the opportunity to study film from creative and practical perspectives in production and other practice-driven courses as well as creative writing for the screen. Software engineering goes beyond programming.  It’s about developing, writing, testing, implementing, and maintaining software systems. It’s the foundation of all computer systems. In other words, our digital world depends on software engineering.

In UNB’s Software Engineering program, you’ll learn how to develop and maintain reliable, safe, affordable, and efficient software systems that satisfy customer requirements. You’ll also gain the skills and knowledge needed to work on large and expensive software systems that often have safety-critical applications.  

Software Engineering is a joint program in the Faculty of Computer Science and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The program is available as a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. 

Why Software Engineering at UNB?
Our program is the only Software Engineering program in Atlantic Canada accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), and one of only 14 CEAB-accredited programs in Canada. The program is also accredited by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS). Our small class sizes at UNB mean greater interaction between you, your instructors, and your peers.

General Information:-

Information Systems was established at UNB as a separate program in 2007. The BISys program is administered by the Faculty of Computer Science. The program educates professionals who apply information technology to solve problems within the business domain.

The BISys program is designed as a four-year program or five years if undertaken in conjunction with the Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) or Professional Experience Program (PEP). Students entering the program are strongly encouraged to participate in either Co-op or PEP, as it is widely recognized that the experience gained is a valuable component of an Information Systems background. A description of the Co-op and PEP programs are found in Section G Undergraduate Degrees in the Computer Science section.

NOTE: Admission to the Bachelor of Information Systems program has been suspended, effective September 2015. For further information, please contact the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science. 

The Music minor allows students from all Faculties to study music from the perspectives of theory, history, analysis, and performance. The program creates rich learning experiences for students interested in making music and for those primarily interested in learning about music.

The minor consists of 24 credit hours. Students focusing on performance will take at least 12 ch from performance and theory based courses, while students focusing on the history and appreciation of music will take at least 12 ch from courses in those areas.

Why Music at UNB?
With the minor in Music at UNB, students interested in music can group a variety of music courses into a cohesive program focusing on either music theory and performance, or music history and appreciation. Students intending to pursue careers in the arts will benefit from this addition to their degree.

Hands-on learning
Students in the Music minor can receive up to 3 credit hours toward their degree by pursuing private music lessons, and up to 3 credit hours for participation in the UNB Concert Band or UNB Chorale.

In the Psychology program at UNB’s Fredericton campus, you’ll explore human behavior- our desires, impulses, actions and emotions- in the context of the science that drives it.

The Psychology program will prepare you for a variety of careers including policymaking at the local, national or global level, or professional programs in a range of healthcare areas such as neuropsychology, speech and language pathology, or medicine.

You’ll have the opportunity to complete courses in:

• Cognitive neuroscience (the connection between the brain and behavior)
• Drugs and behavior
• Physiological psychology
• Surveys of the senses
• Laboratory courses that allow for more intensive study

You will become well equipped to work in a variety of environments and you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to make decisions based on sound scientific principles.

The study of English is about the appreciation of language at work.  English students explore the impact and possibilities of words as they form into narratives and speak through characters to wider cultural communities at home and across the globe. 

English offers creative inspiration and critical thinking skills while empowering students to become highly literate in a society that values communication.

Why English at UNB?
We will help develop your analytical and communication skills; studying literature will refine your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, as well as cultivate your love of literature. Through in-class discussions and seminar presentations, you’ll build strategies for public speaking. 

Hands-on learning

• Internship: use your knowledge to shape the community by applying for an unpaid, for-credit internship. You’ll work directly with local organizations and non-profits, including the Charlotte Street Arts Centre and the New Brunswick Film Co-op.
• Enjoy mentorship opportunities with a work-study position in the department, or on campus
• Study English literature abroad through UNB’s Exchange program
• Attend small seminar courses where you can passionately engage with unique and focused topics in literature that excite you

Physics is the most fundamental natural science, It examines basic concepts such as energy, force, and spacetime, and all that derives from these, such as mass, charge, matter and its motion. More broadly, it is the general analysis of nature, conducted in order to understand how the world and universe behave.

Physicists want to really understand how the world works and the applied physics degree focuses on developments that depend on that understanding. The applied physics program incorporates practical physics courses (for example with applications in the energy and the electronics sectors), and allows room for electives in other Faculties such as Engineering and Computer Science.
