The MPhys allows you to study physics in greater depth and breadth than our BSc. It’s particularly recommended if you’re interested in pursuing research in industry, government or academia, or if you want to go on to postgraduate study. During the course you’ll study more advanced topics such as atmospheric physics, medical physics and computational fluid dynamics. You’ll also undertake a large research project with one of our research centres. We have an innovative strand of industrial projects, supported by the Institute of Physics, that gives you direct experience of working in industrial research. You’ll also have the option of studying abroad or spending a year in industry or at a research institution.

• In the MPhys year you will study more advanced courses in a range of Physics specialisms (including Atmospheric Physics, Medical Physics and Computational Fluid Dynamics), plus undertake a large research project with one of our research centres.
• Your research project will form a third of your final year and you will be closely supervised and guided by one of our experienced researchers while you work on a cutting-edge problem in modern Physics.   Previous projects include work on the physics of aerosols in the atmosphere, inductive charging losses in electric vehicles, and using Josephson junctions as measurement standards.
• We have an innovative strand of industrial Physics projects supported by the Institute of Physics that give you direct experience of working in industrial research.

The MSc Medical Microbiology will equip students with the skills and in-depth knowledge required to have an impactful career in a range of sectors such. The programme will develop extensive theoretical and practical laboratory skills in graduates, building on the research expertise of the programme team, including techniques and theoretical skills such as: antimicrobial susceptibility testing, antibiotic resistance-gene analysis, microbial identification (16SrRNA sequencing and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry), parasite identification, next generation sequencing analysis, bacteriophage isolation and purification, antibiotic discovery and characterisation, and mammalian cell culture. With our excellent facilities, emphasis on practical work, and teaching underpinned by the latest research, you will be qualified for research and development positions in biopharmaceutical companies as well as a wide range of other non-laboratory roles in industry and academia. The course will make use of expert external speakers from the biopharmaceutical industry as well as academic experts from other universities and from University of Hertfordshire staff.

• Medical Microbiology is an important discipline within the biomedical sciences and there is a high demand for well-qualified graduates.
• This course is a natural progression for anyone completing an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, or Microbiology, who is interested in a career in the Pharmaceutical industry. 
• The course will enable you to apply your biosciences knowledge to the particular challenges of understanding microbial pathogenesis, disease transmission, and the challenges around the use of, and resistance to antibiotics.

• The biomedical sciences are made up of the following disciplines; biochemistry, haematology, immunology, microbiology, histology, cytology, bacteriology and transfusion (blood) technologies.
• In the UK the term 'biomedical scientist' is a protected title used by professionals working within the pathology department of a hospital. This group of healthcare professionals is the second largest profession registered by the Health Professions Council but not all students who study biomedical sciences end up working as biomedical scientists. The aim of the MSc in Cancer Immunotherapy is through an understanding of the numerous ways in which cancers and the immune system interact, to learn how cancer immunotherapies are developed. The utilisation of the immune system in cancer therapy has been a long standing goal in the field. The course will provide a thorough understanding of immune effector mechanisms and of cancer biology and the personal skills the students will develop, through problem-based learning and self-directed learning.

• You will have use of our Automotive Centre with advanced engine test cells and a vehicle ride simulator for the testing of car suspension systems
• You will gain a practical education based around several specialist laboratories including an aerodynamics laboratory with five wind tunnels of varying speeds.
• This MEng degree course in Automotive Engineering will give you the opportunity to design, build and race single-seater race car in the UK Formula Student Competition and can get involved from your first year onwards, if you wish.
