Civil Engineering (Major)
The Civil Engineering program covers the fields of structural design, geotechnical engineering and water engineering, together with infrastructure design and environmental engineering.

Electrical Engineering (Major)
The Electrical program covers electronic components, electromagnets, computers, power generation, distribution systems, communications and control.

Public Relations (Major)

The major also develops a strategic understanding of the public sphere from national and international viewpoints.

Mechanical Engineering (Major)

Management (Major)
The Management major equips you with the expert skills to create a career as a management specialist. You will be prepared to succeed in a range of roles in contemporary private, public, and not-for-profit organisations in Australia and internationally. In this major you will develop strategic management knowledge to enable effective organisational decision-making. The subjects in this major focus on organisational learning, development and behaviour, operations management, leadership and entrepreneurship, change and innovation, and policy.

Information Systems are becoming integral to modern culture and are a primary engine behind much of the world’s economic and social change. Today, to implement technology, practising professionals need to understand the context in which computer technology can best be selected, applied and implemented.

Networking (Major)
The Networking major provides in-depth knowledge for the analysis, design, and implementation of networked systems. You will develop the technical skills needed for the management and secure operation of a broad range of systems, including LANs, WANs, wireless networks, distributed systems, and large heterogeneous networks.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has penetrated into all areas of industry sectors, such as retail, banking, health and education. ICT professionals are required to have cross disciplinary knowledge and skills, while the speed of change in ICT requires professionals to update their knowledge and skills every few years. Western Sydney University recognises this and our Postgraduate ICT course reflects the changing landscape.

The course concentrates on developing and extending your knowledge needed for ICT roles within the fast-growing ICT industry and other relevant industry sectors. This is reflected in our specialisations and units that cover core ICT discipline topics such as Networking, and Web and Mobile Computing.

Web and Mobile Computing (Major)
The widespread deployment of web and mobile devices has made them a target of choice for companies to carry out their everyday business. The contemporary developers are expected to understand the strengths and limitations of web and mobile technologies and fit these to create successful user-friendly web and/or mobile applications. This specialisation is aimed at developing knowledge and skills in theoretical concepts and practical technologies needed to design and develop complex software applications across a range of web and mobile platforms. Students with these knowledge and skills will have greater prospects of finding employment with reputable companies or building their career as self-employed developers.

Work integrated learning
Students will undertake 120 hours fulltime or part-time equivalent industry placements as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component which is required for successful completion of the course. You will work in an external organisation in Australia or within a department/division within Western Sydney University carrying out tasks related to ICT. This will provide you with real-world industry experience in Australia. Students can nominate an external organisation of their choice. Students with substantial post-qualification work experience in Australia maybe eligible for advanced standing for this unit.
