Designed to address the government's ambition of filling the current digital skills gap, this course will provide you with the specialist IT skills set required to succeed in industry. You will learn to deal with complex IT issues systematically and creatively, enhancing your ability to evaluate and apply advanced theories and techniques to a range of situations.

We recognise that you will have your own personal career aspirations, and this course will provide you with the flexibility to tailor your learning. You can study MSc Information & Technology by individual programme of study (IPOS), or by choosing one of four pathways.

Many events now have an international focus and are organised across cultural, economic and geographical boundaries. Providing a sound theoretical underpinning of the cultural, political, ethical and economic aspects of the sector, this course will develop the practical and strategic knowledge required to run international events effectively.

Guest speakers from industry will share their expertise and insights through a series of lectures. These events, combined with case studies and field trips, will keep the course contemporary and industry focused.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Create and deliver a diverse range of events from conception through to evaluation

Coming with some experience of events, whether through volunteering at a school prom or working directly in an events environment, this course will build a solid foundation for your continuing study.

Our applied management course is dedicated to getting you into the events industry, and our experienced lecturers will help you find your way. All modules on the course are contextualised into the events industry - everything you learn will have a practical application when you begin your career.

Learn to design and implement robotic products and systems that have the potential to revolutionise our everyday lives and working practices.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Study the theoretical principles behind robotics and automation and have the opportunity to put these principles into practice
• Work with basic robots
• Spend time in the lab learning simple programming and systems
• Develop knowledge to understand more complex and sophisticated systems used in industry
• Build your own robots in two separate engineering design projects
• Refine your skills in the designing, building and testing of electronic and electrical systems
• Build circuits to establish how they work

As part of this course, you'll:

• Study four key areas: sport performance, sport management, sport coaching and contemporary issues
• Develop academic and professional skills, applying these into your chosen sport
• Work with our industry partners including key employers, for example, Leeds Rhinos (rugby and netball), Leeds United and British Athletics
• Apply your learning around these areas of study to your chosen sport setting
• Gain breadth and depth of work experience from day one through modules, volunteering, coaching qualifications and paid employment
• Decide whether to focus on one discipline area, or maintain a breadth as you progress through your degree

Be part of the robotics revolution - make robots come 'alive' and develop their ability to think and make decisions that assist human activity.

This integrated master’s is studied over four years and combines undergraduate and postgraduate study in one course.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Work hands-on with robotics
• Learn how to program hardware and software for real-life case studies, such as a discovery robot that will navigate and interact with its environment through a range of sensors, including infra-red, sonar, cameras and GPS
• Gain problem-solving skills that are crucial to engineering

As well as a year in industry, you’ll have the opportunity to make site visits and attend industry conferences. This will help build your network of contacts and give you an insight into the latest advancements in robotics engineering.

Become an expert in cyber security and learn how to apply your knowledge to protect organisations from illegal attacks.

As part of this course, you’ll:  

• Develop a broad knowledge of computing as well as specific cyber security expertise and how to put it into practice
• Learn to use your knowledge of computer systems and networks to protect businesses and users from malicious
• attacks in computer security modules
• Study key topics including malware and vulnerabilities, secure coding, sandboxing, virtualisation, and ethical hacking and penetration testing techniques
• Learn practical investigative and 'hacking' techniques
• Learn through practical applications on our bespoke Hacktivity system that replicates real-world business systems and potential attacks.

You’ll gain experience of preparing and presenting work for use by courts of law and industry customers. Attending conferences will give you the opportunity to network with professionals and enhance your career prospects. You may also have the option to work with local employers as clients for your final year project.

As part of our Cybercrime and Security Innovation Centre, teaching staff on your course work with West Yorkshire Police to develop new ways of fighting cybercrime. This partnership will give you access to cutting-edge research and industry contacts, and an invaluable insight into the real-world applications of computer security. 

Learn about the power of the tourism consumer and get ahead of the curve in tourism marketing by learning to recognise how and when travellers make decisions and what type of holidays they might wish to take.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Combine your passion for travel and exploration with a marketing focus
• Identify different customer segments to develop effective marketing strategies and campaigns aimed at the right audience, at the right time, and using the right platforms
• Develop an understanding of consumer trends – who wants what type of holiday, the types of holiday likely to be available in the future and the kinds of message consumers are likely to engage with
• Gain an insight into moral, ethical, environmental and legal issues, allowing you to make a valuable contribution to the tourism and travel sector

You’ll acquire an understanding of sustainable tourism and development as well as the organisational structure and management of this ever-expanding field, helping you to learn how businesses operate and how skilled leaders can add to their success.

In your second and third year, you’ll have the opportunity to further enhance your knowledge through specialist marketing modules and link your marketing work with innovative launches of new tourism experiences.

• Analyse digital devices, such as hard drives, in computer forensics modules to identify and investigate their contents

• Learn practical investigative and 'hacking' techniques
• Use practical applications on our bespoke Hacktivity system that replicates real-world business systems and potential attacks

You’ll build expertise in the use of digital forensic techniques and analysis through tools used in industry such as Encase and XRY, and open source variants such as Autopsy and FTK Imager. If you join the university’s Ethical Hacking Society, you’ll explore the very latest developments in digital security and attend talks from industry experts to enhance your learning.

This degree is shaped by an established model of coaching adopted by the Football Association and other leading national and international governing bodies.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Develop the skills and knowledge to become a confident sports coach
• Enhance your key coaching skills by understanding your participants and helping them to achieve their potential within their sport
• Learn how to plan, deliver and review both short and long-term training programmes
• Analyse sporting performance and develop your coaching techniques using specialist coaching equipment and software
