The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music allows students to study music within a larger context of a liberal arts education. In comparison to the curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Music (B.M.), less emphasis is placed on studies specifically in music, with greater flexibility for studies in a field outside of music. In lieu of a larger number of credits in music as required for the B.M, the B.A. student completes a 21-credit option in an area outside of music. In addition, completion of a major paper or capstone recital (half recital) is required during the senior year.

Music Therapy - Concentration
The Music Therapy Concentration is designed to prepare the student to take the examination of the Certification Board for Music Therapists (MT-BC). Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship. As a MT-BC, graduates may work in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation facilities, assisted living centers, and in special education. Some music therapists maintain private practices or serve as consultants.

The undergraduate curriculum includes core music courses, music therapy methods and research courses, and general education courses. All students learn to demonstrate musicianship on several instruments including piano, guitar, and voice. Students engage with community members in a variety of service learning and clinical practicum placements, where they are supervised by board-certified music therapists. Students also complete a clinical internship at one of several approved sites, for a total of 1200 hours of clinical experience (as required by the American Music Therapy Association).

The music therapy program at CSU is internationally recognized for its leadership in clinical training and research. The music therapy area includes the Undergraduate Music Therapy Research Academy and the interdisciplinary Brainwaves Research Laboratory, where students have opportunities for hands-on involvement in music and music therapy research.

English majors develop an understanding of diverse cultures, literary traditions, and great works of English, American, and world literature. Students expand their ability to analyze a variety of texts and view them through the lenses of diverse critical perspectives. Majors develop the ability to write for both specialized and general audiences. Students can choose from five concentrations: Creative Writing, English Education, Linguistics, Literature, or Writing, Rhetoric and Literacy.

English Education - Concentration
The English Education concentration provides students with preparation for teaching in secondary schools. It is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in teaching language arts, and offers a range of courses in language, literature, and writing. Students may receive a teaching endorsement from the state of Colorado in English/Language Arts. In addition to the common requirements for the English major, students take courses that focus on teaching the subject matter of English, as well as education classes through the School of Education.

The Biomedical Sciences major centers around physiology, cellular and molecular biology, and human and animal anatomy. Throughout your studies, you’ll be encouraged to select elective courses and laboratory research in specialty areas of endocrinology, pharmacology, neurophysiology, reproductive physiology, and cardiopulmonary physiology in order to tailor your educational experiences to meet your career dreams.

Public interest regarding the importance of nutrition to health and fitness is at a high level and increasing. The Major in Nutrition and Food Science involves integration of the biological, medical, and social sciences and their application to the improvement of human nutrition and fitness, prevention of chronic disease, and improved quality of life. The major is both science- and human service-oriented.

Nutrition and Food Science graduates gain a scientific understanding of the principles of human nutrition, the role of nutrition in the prevention and management of disease, delivery of nutritional care, and the principles of nutrition assessment and food preparation. Additionally, graduates know the techniques of interviewing, counseling, information management, and effective communication.

History provides a form of knowledge that people in all times and places have used to answer important questions about the human predicament.

The Cell and Molecular Biology Program offers research opportunities from a wide variety of fields to include the molecular and cellular aspects of cancer biology, infectious disease, metabolism (includes biofuels), neuroscience, plant biology, molecular physiology, gene expression, reproductive biology, developmental biology and structural biology.

In this major, you’ll focus on field crops and soils, learning the foundation sciences underlying the production and management of food, feed, and energy crops to meet human needs and protect the environment. Special emphasis is placed on production efficiency and the conservation of soil, energy, plants, and water. You’ll get broad-based coverage of natural and social sciences, communication skills, and opportunities to explore interests and leadership potential.

The Major in Soil and Crop Sciences provides hands-on training and expert instruction that will equip students to solve current global challenges in soil, plant, and environmental sciences.

The Master of Applied Statistics Statistical Science Specialization emphasizes the practical application of statistics. The innovative curriculum with 31 credits over 19 courses can be completed full-time in one year or part-time in two to four years. The program can be completed on-campus or online. This broad background in applied statistics will allow students to start working immediately as practicing statisticians upon graduation.
