The honors program in English is designed to encourage and recognize superior academic accomplishments by English undergraduates. With the approval of the chair of the English department and the departmental honors advisor, students who meet the eligibility standards may enter the English honors program before the beginning of their senior year. Students may be admitted to the program on the recommendation of any member of the English department faculty, or students may petition to enter the program. Under the direction of a faculty tutor, students in the honors program will complete an honors project that culminates in their writing an honors thesis or project report. For further information on eligibility and enrollment, students should consult the departmental honors advisor.

Program Learning Outcomes:
All graduates with a B. A. in English will be:

• Informed readers, able to formulate readings of texts based on their knowledge of literary historical contexts and of basic critical strategies;
• Skilled writers, able to develop a thesis and sustain a coherent written argument about literature using secondary sources.

If you want to see the big picture and manage a diverse range of people and business areas, pursue a master’s degree in leadership development at Wright State. We will work with your schedule, as we are transitioning to 100 percent remote course delivery. You can take two courses per semester and finish your degree in five semesters. You take courses in a cohort model that includes program-related experiences that integrate theory and practice.  

Your coursework will address the principles of individual-based leader development, focusing on processes that build the capacities of groups in organizations. You will be capable of applying knowledge, critical analysis, improvement strategies and research to common challenges encountered in business, community, educational and non-profit organizations.

Electrical engineers make big dreams into reality—in the areas of alternative energy, wireless communications, electronic surveillance, computing technology, and semiconductor devices. Electrical engineers are at the forefront of technological advances. Imagine being part of a team that uses a CCD array to create an artificial retina, or a non-tethered pacemaker the size of a vitamin pill. How about developing an alternative-energy system to give a rural homestead power and wireless access, or designing the next generation of autonomous vehicles that conserve energy, plan routes and eliminate collisions? Closer to home, you can imagine a system that monitors your grandmother’s health, automatically administers her medication, and communicates remotely with care providers to allow her to live safely and with confidence in her own home.

The goal of the program is to train students in modern electrical and computer engineering design skills, with the objective of post-graduation employment in a related field.  This will be achieved through attainment of the following student outcomes, as specified by the ABET Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission.  Each of these outcomes is addressed in one or more curricular requirements of the program.

Program Core Skills

• An ability to select and apply the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of the discipline to broadly-defined engineering technology activities
• An ability to select and apply a knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to engineering technology problems that require the application of principles and applied procedures or methodologies
• An ability to conduct standard tests and measurements; to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments; and to apply experimental results to improve processes
• An ability to design systems, components, or processes for broadly-defined engineering technology problems appropriate to program educational objectives

The B.S. Degree Program in Earth and Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences Concentration is designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and experience required for graduate study and to prepare students for professional careers in a variety of fields including energy resources, water resources, environmental protection, and environmental site investigation and remediation.

The School of Music offers majors in the following areas of performance: bassoon, clarinet, classical guitar, euphonium or baritone horn, flute, horn, jazz guitar, oboe, organ, percussion, piano, saxophone, string bass, trombone, trumpet, tuba, viola, violin, violoncello, and voice. With departmental permission, students may major in fields other than those listed. Students must study continuously in their chosen disciplines until they meet all graduation requirements, including satisfactory public performance of specified recitals during the junior and senior years.

Each music performance major is required to participate in at least one university ensemble related to the student’s applied music concentration during each semester in which the student is enrolled full time. Assignment to an ensemble is made by the director of bands, director of choral studies, or director of orchestral studies; the appropriate ensemble director; and the student’s full-time applied instructor. When the student’s applied instructor is not a full-time faculty member, approval must be given by the chair of the student’s applied board. To be eligible for the Bachelor of Music degree, the performance major must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the major performing medium and a 2.0 in all other required music courses.

Classics is the study of the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome. Both cultures have had a profound influence on life in the western world, especially in the areas of language and literature, art and architecture, politics and religion, science and philosophy. The Classics department at Wright State offers classes in most of these areas.

The Latin major allows students to focus primarily on the study of Latin language, literature, and culture. Students are required to take 7 semesters of Latin language. Additional electives cover courses in a diverse range of subjects relating to the study of the Classical world.

Students interested in teaching Latin major in Latin and enroll in the Latin Licensure program, which the Classics Department offers in conjunction with Wright State’s College of Education and Human Services.

Sociology is concerned with social relations:

• How people relate to each other as individuals, in families, and in other groups
• How they interact within various social institutions, including the workforce and government
• How their behavior is judged socially acceptable or deviant by others

The Bachelor of Arts Program in sociology trains you to observe and analyze social interactions, predict likely outcomes, and determine how we can develop programs
for the good of individuals and society.

To help prepare for future work and service, you will be required to take five or more upper-level courses designed to develop your writing and critical thinking skills.

Study from a social scientific perspective how humans create, transmit, receive, and respond to messages. The communication studies program will help you better understand intrapersonal and interpersonal communication. The mass communication program shapens your skills in mediated processes and effects, social media, digital media, and other multimedia processes. Your intellectual, organizational, and social abilities will increase through our new curriculum. These abilities can be applied to a variety of contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, and mediated settings. Your courses will underscore real-world experiences with theoretical frameworks. Your ability to critically think about the world around you cannot be overemphasized. We strive to help you participate in a democratic society as an informed and civically engaged citizen and demonstrate global and multicultural competence.

The Greek major allows students to focus primarily on the study of Greek language, literature, and culture. Students are required to take 7 semesters of Greek language. Additional electives cover courses in a diverse range of subjects relating to the study of the Classical world.
