Duolingo's English Test is accepted by thousands of institutions worldwide. It can be done on a computer (online). It is an online test that can be taken from anywhere and anytime.

All four language skills are tested on the Duolingo test just as on conventional study abroad exams like TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE. This post will tell you everything about the test and whether you should take it.

The adaptive test becomes more difficult as you answer questions correctly and becomes easier if you answer incorrectly. Although the test takes only about an hour, it may quickly assess the test taker's capability with a limited number of questions.

There is no need to make an appointment to take the test, as it may be taken anytime and anywhere. Candidates may take the test from their homes, and it also includes an enhanced section where they may record a 10-minute video interview and respond to open-ended questions.

Test Format

An ungraded section that records your answers to open-ended questions is part of the 45-minute video interview. The graded section evaluates your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

Within 48 hours or two days, you can post your Duolingo test results and share them with as many schools as you wish.

Duolingo English Adaptive Test

The test provider will assign the Duolingo adaptive test scores independently. The test taker must follow the rules and regulations of the test or risk being disqualified.

The Duolingo English test checks candidates' reading, writing, and listening abilities and tests their speaking skills. This part contains all question types and appears throughout the test at random.

The test provider will assign Duolingo adaptive test scores separately. Test takers must follow the rules and regulations of the test, or else they will be disqualified.

Duolingo Video Interview Test

The video interview comprises the second part of the test. In this component, the test taker must record their responses to open-ended questions in a 10-minute video. The test taker may be asked to talk about any scenario or describe an image, or be allowed to select a topic and speak for a few minutes. A variety of questions should be prepared.

Why Duolingo English Test?

The Duolingo English Test is a computer-based test that evaluates real-world language skills by measuring reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. The test taker's proficiency is quantified as a comprehensive score on a scale of 10-160.

Once the exam is over, the candidate receives a complete score from 10-160. The IELTS or TOEFL scores are usually higher than 120. You should see how you scored relative to those scores.

Who can take the Duolingo English Test?

Duolingo is accepted by thousands of institutions worldwide. In the United States, even some of the most prestigious universities, such as Columbia University, the University of Chicago, Duke University , and Yale University, accept Duolingo English Test scores.

What should you do to prepare for the Duolingo English Test?

To pass the Duolingo test, you must prepare yourself. You should work on improving all aspects of reading to listening. You can listen to English podcasts, read articles from top magazines and newspapers, and practice conversing in English with native English speakers.

By taking a sample test, you can also get familiar with the kinds of queries you'll encounter on the real test. You may take the free test on Duolingo's website. Thus, you may take the test as many times as you like.

Difference between Duolingo English Test and IELTS Exam

While the IELTS test is completed over two days, Duolingo's test can be completed in one go. The format of both exams differs significantly. While the IELTS test evaluates the candidate's command of the English language through essay questions, short answers, and multiple-choice questions, the Duolingo test gauges the candidate's intonation and idiom knowledge.

Difference between Duolingo English Test and TOEFL Exam

Duolingo's tests scrutinize many English abilities, including writing, listening and speaking. While the TOEFL test emphasizes real-world scenarios in academic settings and concentrates on reading, writing, listening, and speaking, the Duolingo test covers all those disciplines in one test.

A change in the issue is necessary to solve the next question. In the TOEFL test, the difficulty level of questions does not change with the previous response, but in the Duolingo test, the difficulty level changes with each successive question. If one test is on reading, the other may test listening.

What happens after the test?

Once you've finished the test, the proctors will receive it and notify you when you've received your scores (48 hours later). Scores are delivered to candidates immediately after the exam is finished. A certified test is one that you administer and receive scores for. You may take two certified exams within 30 days. If you experience any technical issues during the test, your test will not be included in the two-time limit.

You can send your Duolingo scores to universities directly from the results page, and the scores are valid for two years. There is no limit to how many institutions you can notify.
