As part of this course, you’ll:

• Specialise your study through one of two distinct routes - Early Years and Children & Young People
• Choose the Early Years route if you want to focus on applying a critical lens to young children's education and care within a variety of settings
• Choose the Children & Young People route if you’re interested in focusing on critically examining concepts, contexts and practice related to childhood
• Recognise and champion every child. Using the latest research you’ll explore the theoretical and conceptual terrain of childhood to inform and develop your own practice

• Explore criminological issues alongside a psychological focus

Volunteering will enable you to develop your professional skills and add experience to your CV. Previous students have volunteered as learning support workers for the Leeds Youth Justice Board.

Practising in the dynamic field of specialist sports care, you could find yourself working with elite athletes or running your own sports therapy business.

This pre-registration MSc is designed to provide sports scientists and relevant degree holders with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a qualified sports therapist.

You will study the theories which underpin the practical application of sports therapy. You will have access to the University's specialist resources and be able to draw on the considerable expertise of our sport and health academics to further hone your knowledge.

You will have the opportunity to apply your learning and sharpen your practical skills on several placements. You could refine your expertise in the assessment, treatment and management of injuries working in a private practice, with the University's sports teams or with elite-level athletes and professional sports clubs.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Explore topics within the context of housing studies such as the ways different groups co-exist in urban areas, leadership, professional ethics, and tenants’ law

You’ll have the chance to support your learning and experience different urban and cultural environments on field trips. Working alongside students from other universities on joint fieldwork projects will enable you to develop your teamworking, communication and planning skills.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Explore a wide range of theories within psychology, mental health, counselling, child development and psychotherapy
• Combine theoretical knowledge with opportunities to work in mental health environments and develop your ability to build effective therapeutic relationships
• Study a variety of therapeutic approaches  
• Explore psychotherapeutic models including cognitive and behavioural development and look at theories on how mental health issues develop across the lifespan
• Learn how to develop your interpersonal skills in order to build counselling relationships between you and your clients 

This course is suitable for those working in mental health services wanting to further their knowledge and career, or for those wishing to enter the health and care professions. You’ll study a variety of therapeutic approaches and will be able to tailor the course to your career ambitions. On completion, you’ll be able to build positive therapeutic relationships that can foster positive change for your clients, for example with people experiencing anxiety, depression and addiction.

You’ll practise your counselling and interpersonal skills using our interview and feedback rooms. Engaging with work-based learning opportunities will allow you to reflect upon how you use your practical skills in the real world. These activities will help you become a confident, globally minded and emotionally mature individual, enhancing your career prospects.

This integrated masters course provides the ideal platform to gain broad-based technical experience that will enable you to enter design, construction or operations roles within the civil engineering industry.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Learn to understand the complex social conditions that drive people to commit crime and how that expert knowledge can enhance your study of criminology
• Critically analyse and challenge responses to crime in order to help shape a better society
• Study a variety of topics such as modern theories of sociology and criminology, exploring issues such as youth crime, social exclusion and how the media shapes our perceptions of crime
• Choose your own area of investigation when researching and writing your dissertation

You’ll engage with sociology and criminology equally. Through a blend of workshops, collaborative projects and observational field trips, you’ll be encouraged to drive your studies in the direction of your choosing.

Sociological projects can include creating wikis or presenting your work at a student conference. You could even see your critical essay published in our school's highly regarded sociology journal.

Develop the specialist skills and knowledge to enter the games, digital and creative entertainment industries.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Focus on three main areas: programming and software engineering; art, concept and asset production; and game design studies, practice and theory
• Take products from an initial idea through the design, visualisation and technical implementation stages
• Be encouraged to foster your individual creativity
• Produce games based on your ideas
• Work with other students and tutors who have a passion for games and gaming

 Placement opportunities, networking events and guest lectures from industry experts such as Disney animator Aaron Blaise and codemasters Team17 Digital and Dan Gray from UsTwoGames will enhance your awareness of the career opportunities open to you.

We are also members of industry network, Game Republic, where past students have won awards from industry judges in the Student Showcase Competition.

Final year students also have the opportunity to showcase their work in front of leading employers at the end of year degree show. You can see some of their work in the Leeds School of Arts Festival. Previous years have seen many of our students gain job offers through the showcase opportunities.
