Cell Biology and Genomics
This major sequence provides an introduction to the nature of genes, genomes and the molecular and biochemical basis of cells, including their physiological properties, development, function and interaction with their environment. You will also learn about DNA sequencing and analysis and how an understanding of genomics relates to human health and wellbeing, the environment, biodiversity management and food production systems.  Students will also learn about the molecular basis of disease.

You have the opportunity to explore the nature of the modern world – the forces that have shaped our past and present, and the ways historians interpret historical events. Themes covered include the world in the twentieth century, war and peace, modernisation and social change, colonialism, and gender. Medical Biotechnology uses living cells and cell materials to produce pharmaceutical and diagnostic products that help treat and prevent human diseases. This major provides you with a sound understanding of the core sciences underpinning biotechnology for medical advancement. You will be taken on a journey from the development of the first medical treatments through to regenerative medicine and cutting edge diagnostic and therapeutic deliver systems such as nanotechnology and the associated social and ethical issues surrounding their use.
