Middle East Studies

Deakin offers the only major in Middle East studies in Australia, so we’re best placed to give you a comprehensive understanding of the events and issues shaping the region. You'll gain in-depth knowledge by exploring topics that include media representation, human rights and humanitarian intervention. Politics and Policy Studies

A Politics and Policy Studies major will enhance your understanding of the big issues in the world today, and assist you to develop the skills to make a difference in your lifetime. We investigate the challenge posed to Australia and the world by climate change; asylum seekers and refugees; development; inequality; political parties and new social movements. We examine the ideas behind the policy and the rhetoric. We look globally for different solutions; investigate how policy lessons are learned; and assess the impact on domestic and global politics. We examine how and why some people are able to exercise power better than others, and assess ideas and opportunities for addressing the pressing social, economic, and environmental issues of our time.

Infection and Immunity
The Infection and Immunity major will explore development and disease at a cellular level, investigate key concepts of immunity and blood cells, and introduce the world of genomics and proteomics. Students will gain a sound understanding of the key concepts and techniques underpinning clinically-relevant microorganisms and their control, and through the use of epidemiology and biostatistics identify prevalent diseases in relationship to specific populations. You will also learn current laboratory techniques engaged in molecular diagnostics for the analytical identification of infectious pathogens to develop therapeutic applications.

Psychological science

This sequence prepares students for postgraduate training towards becoming a practicing registered psychologist. To practice as a psychologist students must complete an undergraduate degree with a major sequence in psychology followed by a fourth year of study in psychology (an Honours in Psychology or a Graduate Diploma of Psychology) that are accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).

To take advantage of the opportunities that information technology offers, businesses need skilled staff who can lead and manage IT projects, services, and departments. Deakin’s Master of Information Technology Management will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and manage information technology projects and people within enterprise. 

This course develops your understanding of the many aspects of IT including networking, cyber security, operations, and enterprise systems.
As an enterprise manager you will work alongside, manage and lead artificial intelligence specialists, software engineers, data scientists, application developers and business analysts.
