Cell Biology and Genomics
This major sequence provides an introduction to the nature of genes, genomes and the molecular and biochemical basis of cells, including their physiological properties, development, function and interaction with their environment. You will also learn about DNA sequencing and analysis and how an understanding of genomics relates to human health and wellbeing, the environment, biodiversity management and food production systems.  Students will also learn about the molecular basis of disease.

Develop an in-depth understanding of human biology with the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and graduate with the skills and experience to play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases at molecular, cellular and systems levels. Expertise in biology and the science behind disease puts you in a position to make a real difference. The Master of International Relations aims to produce graduates who are able to demonstrate high-level skills of theoretical and empirical analysis and interpret global issues and events. This course will give you a substantial understanding of the complexities of contemporary international relations.

You’ll examine key contemporary issues and developments around the world, particularly in the Asia Pacific region. The program also offers optional postgraduate internships, giving you the opportunity to get experience overseas.

Study Deakin's Bachelor of Nutrition Science and help tackle the challenges facing our society including disease prevention, lifespan nutrition, obesity, the spread of misinformation, and the social and physiological effects of food on our wellbeing. Modelled on commercial laboratories, our food preparation, food analysis and two sensory laboratories give students hands-on real-world laboratory experience preparing you for the workplace.

Gain at least 75 hours of workplace training through industry placement. These experiences ensure you have the practical skills to improve health through food and nutrition – skills that are increasingly in demand as society grapples with nutrition-related diseases and their impact on wellbeing. This course provides a pathway to the Master of Dietetics, which allocates 60% of places to Deakin graduates.

Family, Society and Health
This major focuses on the household and family as a setting for public health. It explores the issues facing households and families, such as the link between healthy human development and healthy households, economic wellbeing and health, and the need for supportive environments. It is ideal for students wishing to work in welfare, health promotion, or with organisations offering support services and resources for families.

Deakin's Bachelor of Nutrition Science (Dietetics Pathway) offers guaranteed entry into our Master of Dietetics if you achieve a 75 weighted average mark or above. The course develops your understanding of human nutrition and its impact on health. Spanish
Spanish is a thriving international language and the official language in 21 countries. Close to 500 million people are Spanish native speakers, making the language second only to Mandarin Chinese in terms of its number of native speakers worldwide. Deakin’s Spanish studies will help you develop a wide range of communication skills in Spanish, regardless of whether you have any previous experience in the language. Our sequential proficiency levels will take you from scratch to fluency or near fluency. If you already know some Spanish you will be able to enter your major or minor from an intermediate level. Furthermore, you will acquire an understanding and cultural awareness of the varied societies and cultures that make up the Spanish-speaking world. In-country language programs will be made available to students undertaking a major sequence in Spanish.
