Journalism
Get hands-on learning experience and be taught by our expert team of journalism and media practitioners who have extensive experience across all the key media platforms. You'll learn how to identify, research, plan and produce newsworthy stories. Final-year students take part in a program of intensive news production in a digital newsroom, graduating with the ability to create and edit word, sound and vision to craft stories, news and features for print, online, radio, television or multimedia newsrooms.

Study Deakin's Bachelor of Nutrition Science and help tackle the challenges facing our society including disease prevention, lifespan nutrition, obesity, the spread of misinformation, and the social and physiological effects of food on our wellbeing. Modelled on commercial laboratories, our food preparation, food analysis and two sensory laboratories give students hands-on real-world laboratory experience preparing you for the workplace.

Gain at least 75 hours of workplace training through industry placement. These experiences ensure you have the practical skills to improve health through food and nutrition – skills that are increasingly in demand as society grapples with nutrition-related diseases and their impact on wellbeing. This course provides a pathway to the Master of Dietetics, which allocates 60% of places to Deakin graduates.

This major will equip students with a sound knowledge of the causes of health and illness and of effective strategies for prevention of the latter, as well as practical skills in health education and communication, health planning and management.

Public relations practitioners are 21st century communication specialists who manage and coordinate relationships between organisations, agencies and the public. With a focus on ethical and sustainable communication practices, the course builds key knowledge and skills in core public relations responsibilities such as: event management and campaigns; social media tactics and media relations; strategic planning, management and communication; and the allied field of marketing communication. Final-year students have the opportunity to develop their skills further by undertaking an industry internship, working with real clients to develop a public relations campaign. Visual arts and photography

The Visual Art and Photography major combines in-depth disciplinary training in visual art and photography practices and digital technologies alongside a sequence of open-ended studio-based studies encouraging cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary thinking. Gain both the practical studio skills and adaptable critical thinking skills necessary to participate successfully in the art world and creative industries.
