Working in the counselling profession involves guiding and empowering people to develop self-understanding and to make changes in their lives in order to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals. They assist people by offering them a structured and focused way of addressing their problems, and work with clients on developing strategies to overcome obstacles and personal challenges that they are facing.

Materials science covers chemistry, physics and engineering. From a chemical perspective it involves the design and molecular assembly of new smart materials that are useful chemically, physically or both. Every day scientists are inventing new molecules and materials for a growing range of applications that will make positive differences in people's lives. Clean energy systems, better sensors for disease, smart drug delivery systems, more efficient farming technologies, green and sustainable polymers and plastics all arise from a knowledge of contemporary materials research. There is strong demand from existing industries and emerging start-up companies for graduates with materials science skills. All sectors of society are being influenced by the technologies, both present and future, that this area of science has to offer.

With this degree you will learn how to apply your new knowledge of the chemical sciences to solve problems and discover new materials that will drive the technologies of tomorrow, and be able to design, review and conduct experiments in modern materials chemistry. You will also develop the ability to analyse and interpret data from a range of modern analytical tools, as well as how to apply that knowledge in the characterisation of new materials. You will contribute to the provision of scientific solutions to national and international problems and develop new technologies for the sustainable advancement of society, as well as the skills to effectively communicate your findings and developments, and to work collaboratively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

You'll gain a foundation knowledge across all areas of science, giving you the flexibility to decide what you'd like to focus on next, and gain specialised skills and practical knowledge for a professional career in the biological, clinical, chemical, physical or mathematical sciences.

With a strong focus on hands-on learning, you will have access to our state-of-the-art testing labs and facilities and work on real and authentic projects. Throughout, you'll be taught by some of Australia's leading researchers, who are tackling the big issues of today.

You will pair what you learn in the lab with the practicality of your data science degree, which includes all the legal and ethical issues associated with the ways society handles and protects its information.

The Master of Design (MDes) is an exploration of 21st century creative practices suited to current or emerging designers who wish to complement their existing skills with concepts, strategies, and technologies to solve complex problems in business, government and communities.

It offers students the opportunity to advance their skills and knowledge on design context and processes in multiple areas including experience design, design thinking, emerging design futures and business and professional practice. These courses are complimented by a range of practical/making courses in the areas of visual communication, prototyping, still/moving image and interactive design. The program gives a broad range of disciplines (design and non-design) the opportunity to upskill and build upon contemporary practices relevant to all designers and equip them with the knowledge base to pursue a major design research project of their choice.

Students will utilise both collaborative and individual working contexts to expand their knowledge of contemporary design processes at professional industry level. They will gain research and critical thinking skills which will be deployed in a major design project in the second year of the program. Graduates will be prepared for practice-led work and/or design strategy and leadership in macro, micro and freelance scenarios.

The Graduate Diploma of Research Studies in Business provides an alternative route for entry into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program for applicants who do not possess the required qualifications for direct admission.

Upon successful completion of the program, students may be eligible for admission to a MPhil or PhD subject to fulfilment of requirements for candidature as specified in the Higher Degree Research policy, and successful completion of the confirmation procedure. The grade achieved will determine entry to either a PhD or MPhil candidature (see the Pathways to further study section for further information).

The Program Director will be responsible for the overall supervision of the student and monitoring their progress throughout the program.

Students may choose to exit the Graduate Diploma program (after successfully completing the specified courses) with the Graduate Certificate in Research Studies in Business.

Bachelor of Arts graduates can undertake an additional year of study in the Honours program, which gives you the opportunity to build on the skills and knowledge gained in the foundation degree.

The Honours degree allows you to put to practical use the knowledge you've gained in the first three years of your degree, and it prepares you for postgraduate study and professional opportunities.

An Honours qualification may also help to set you apart from your peers, signalling to employers that you possess the abilities and knowledge they value, including critical thinking, time management and interpersonal engagement.

Industry and expert connections
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is an excellent entry path towards a PhD, and also signals to employers that you're capable of managing a large independent program under supervision. Internships may be available to students within the Honours program.

As factories and other engineering environments transform into an industrial Internet of Things, the ability to analyse vast quantities of data to extract relevant intelligence is an increasingly and highly sought-after skill.

Data science provides a broad knowledge of the exploration, gathering, manipulation, visualisation, automation and interpretation of data using digital platforms and can be applied to enable real-time performance optimisation.

This double degree will enable you to provide data-based insights based on your specific expertise in engineering, to improve decision-making, reduce costs and increase efficiencies.

You'll gain knowledge in your chosen engineering major and skills to access the insights large data sets provide and lead the way in translating data into actionable information including manipulation, modelling, interpretation and visualisation, using a range of digital platforms and tools.

In your final year, you can enhance your employability through an industry placement to gain practical experience and valuable industry networks.

You'll also graduate with a degree accredited by the national engineering body (Engineers Australia) and be fully equipped to work in local, national and international sectors.

This program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to undertake advanced study and supervised research work in the specialisation defined by their undergraduate degree program within the context of a multidisciplinary cohort.

The program will also provide the necessary preparation for entry into a higher degree research program. The multidisciplinary context of the program, involving team-teaching of students and the sharing of coursework and seminar experiences across disciplines will be invaluable to students given the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to researchers and practitioners seeking to understand complex problems in health.

The program aims to bring students to a level of maturity in their understanding and practice of scholarly work within the Industrial Design area, as well as providing training in the techniques, skills and theoretical background necessary for subsequent postgraduate research.
