Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours)

This Honours program provides a fourth year of study for students who have completed the Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production (1284), or an equivalent undergraduate program. It is a full-time or part-time program that comprises a significant independent film or screen media research project to be completed under formal supervision. This project is complemented by associated methodological and theoretical courses and an appropriate elective course.

This Honours program provides a fourth year of study for students who have completed the Bachelor of Games Design (1338), or an equivalent undergraduate program. It is a full-time or part-time program that comprises a significant independent Games research project to be completed under formal supervision. This project is driven by methodological and theoretical inquiry and complemented with an appropriate elective course.

An MBA is an advanced general management degree designed for managers who wish to develop a solid business foundation, as well as skills and knowledge of cutting-edge business practices for the 21st century. At Griffith we offer two MBA programs, both are focused around our values of responsible leadership; sustainable business practices; and a global perspective with the aim of making you an effective globally responsible business leader. The two programs we offer differ in their delivery style; one is fully flexible and can be studied online or face to face in a standard 12 week trimester (MBA program 5158). The accelerated program is online only, and each course is delivered over a 6 week period (MBA program 5670). These two delivery styles allow you to choose the method of study that suits you best and both programs are assessed authentically meaning that you can apply what you learn to your workplace with immediate benefit.

The Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) is a full-time program that has been designed to enable students who have demonstrated substantial ability at an undergraduate level to develop their practical expertise and theoretical understanding to a more advanced level.

While studying Visual Arts (Honours), you'll have the ability to work on a project that you're passionate about and have the space and access to studios and equipment to explore that further.

This double degree enables students to combine business management skills with a studio major, developing core competencies such as critical and analytical thinking, business communication and decision-making.

The Design program prepares graduates for diverse professional practice as designers through practical and theoretical learning. The first year focuses on the development of manual and technological skills, design thinking, problem-defining and solving. Students will gain an understanding of the changing role of design and how they can become leaders in the industry. In the following years, students work on industry-related and research projects and specialise in selected studio areas.

Graduates are skilled in creative design and software application and are able to effectively and efficiently manage creative ventures from a business perspective.

This Honours program has been designed to enable students who have demonstrated substantial ability at an undergraduate level to develop advanced levels of studio practice, supporting theory and an advanced level of research understanding.

While studying Design (Honours), you'll have the ability to choose a project or topic that you're passionate about and have the space and access to studios, software and equipment to explore that further.

Graduate outcomes
Our design graduates will have unprecedented opportunity to contribute and lead in vital new forms of social and economic development. Designers work across a range of fields roles, including interior design, product and service design and graphic design as well as interactive and 4D design.

As a Bachelor of Music graduate, you will be highly skilled, musically adaptable and equipped to enter professional life as a creative and flexible twenty-first century musician. Your educational experience will include exposure to diverse musical styles and idioms including classical, contemporary, jazz, popular, electronic, experimental and world music. You will also learn the broadly accepted musical skills of aural awareness training, music theory, critical listening, contemporary music-making practices, music literature and collaborative work appropriate to your field of study.

You will be admitted into a major which may include study in an instrument, music composition, recording studio and music production, electronic and experimental music, voice or composition, in either classical, popular, jazz or creative music technology strands. The Bachelor of Music now includes majors in popular music and creative music technology.

You may audition for more than one major or more than one instrument. However, if successful, your offer will be for only one of your auditioned areas. There may be an  option after first year to divide your major between two areas through an innovative cross-study major subject to special criteria.

If you wish to study music education you will enter a teaching preparation strand in your second year. After successfully completing your undergraduate studies, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Music and be eligible to apply for a graduate entry teacher preparation program.

Should you wish to study creative music technology, you will develop a thorough understanding of the role technology plays in performing, producing, recording, and creating music and sound. You will be working to develop your artistic abilities and to apply new knowledge professionally in diverse contexts. As an aspiring composer, performer, sound designer or audio producer, you will have the opportunity to work with other Griffith Arts departments on diverse projects such as concerts, albums, documentaries, art music videos and feature films. You will study music technology applications in commercial and studio music production and recording, performance, computing, sound editing, multimedia, film, games, installation and sound composition contexts.

You will have opportunities to gain credit for project studies and music industry internships enabling you to gain invaluable experience and preparing you for a smooth transition into professional life.

Elective courses are available to deepen and broaden your musical experience. Elective study areas include: Composition; Conducting; Popular Music; Keyboard Accompaniment; Music Industry Studies; Music Literature; Creative Music Technology; Music Theory and Aural Studies; Opera and Music Theatre Studies; Pedagogy.

The Bachelor of Music in Composition builds on the knowledge and skills you gain in the Bachelor of Music. You will develop advanced skills in composition and learn through exposure to a range of musical styles, theory and literature. With project studies and work integrated learning courses, you will gain invaluable industry and professional experience.

Students who graduate with a Bachelor of Music will not be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Music in Composition. Students wishing to undertake the Bachelor of Music in Composition should apply to transfer into the program once they complete the Bachelor of Music requirements.

In the Master of Screen Production, you will undertake practical work, integrated with screenings and discussions that will place your learning in a craft and creative context. This degree has a strong collaborative component, which will help you develop a sound understanding of how your specialist role fits into the production process. You'll make life-long connections with peers across all aspects of the screen production process and you will draw on the networks and bonds created at Griffith Film School in your future professional practice.

Learn through a problem-based curriculum and develop research skills that will help you respond effectively to the changing nature of the industry. You may have the opportunity to experience a supervised industry placement or internship, preparing you for a creative and exciting career within the international business of screen production.

With experience in Griffith Film School's world class facilities, including high-end film production equipment; multi-camera, motion capture and sound stage studios; and state-of-the-art sound recording studios, you will be equipped to work in a wide range of film production settings.

The Bachelor of Animation (Honours) provides a fourth year of study for students who have completed a Bachelor of Animation (1179) or an equivalent undergraduate program. It is a full-time program that comprises a significant independent Animation research project to be completed under formal supervision. This project is driven by methodological and theoretical inquiry and complemented with an appropriate elective course.
