Take your time and find out what area of teaching you'd like to specialise in. You won't have to decide what you'll teach – secondary, primary, or early childhood and primary – until the end of your first year. Then, you'll dive deep into your area of specialisation and develop unique and comprehensive skills.

Offered at every La Trobe campus in Victoria, our Bachelor of Education is extremely flexible. Learn in blended mode (online, in schools, in community and on campus), making it easier to balance study and life commitments.

You'll seamlessly integrate theory and practice through a careful blend of learning experiences. Learn the most up-to-date and proven approaches to teaching, then put them into practice. You'll spend at least 80 days in schools and education centres, learning how to manage classrooms, design class plans and guide students.

Learn from currently practising teachers and get valuable knowledge that no textbook (or YouTube video) can give you. If you decide to pursue primary or secondary teaching, you'll develop discipline specialisations that you'll take straight into the classroom when you graduate. Early childhood and primary

This major is for students with a special passion for nurturing our youngest hearts and minds. When you study La Trobe’s early childhood and primary major, you’ll learn how to provide meaningful education for newborns, right through to children aged 12, with a particular focus on children up to 8 years old.? 

Learn proven approaches to teaching young children. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of child psychology and how this special age group learns. Get experience teaching in all the most significant growth areas – from how to read and write, to how to make (and keep) friends, and how to observe and navigate the world around you.?

Understand the human mind and how it drives behaviour.

La Trobe's Bachelor of Psychological Science will prepare you for a career as a professional psychologist, or in a psychology-related field across industries from clinical psychology to human services and marketing.

Elective subjects with a choice of minor sequences in Human Relationships and Neuroscience gives you the flexibility to work towards the career you want.

The Master of Teaching (Primary) builds preservice teacher knowledge and skills to teach across the curriculum. There is an emphasis on researching teacher practice in numeracy and literacy.

Rehabilitation Counselling

Help people recovering from injuries or living with mental health conditions or disabilities improve their quality of life. You’ll build skills in counselling techniques, case management and vocational rehabilitation and support clients to achieve their personal, career and independent living goals.

Build a career helping others with La Trobe's Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours). Develop your professional practice at Australia's largest rural health school and be ready to practice after just five years in this accredited Honours degree.

Understand the foundations of dental science and get hands-on experience in clinical placements across regional Victoria. You'll treat patients under the supervision of experienced clinicians and work to improve oral health through prevention, education and clinical care.

If you'd like to explore further research and develop a specialisation, you can also complete a community-based project or research project, which can lead to a doctorate.

You'll learn:

Preclinical oral health

• Develop your knowledge of preventive, periodontal and restorative procedures. On graduation, you'll be competent in basic preclinical skills including dental materials, infection control, OH&S, instrumentation and dental procedures.

Medicine for dentistry

• Learn to take a comprehensive medical history and understand its role in safe oral healthcare. Understand how therapeutic drugs are used to manage medical conditions.

Clinical practice

• Discover how to diagnose and plan care for patients. Improve your communication and treatment skills while learning to manage patients in a clinical setting.

Prosthodontics

• Learn the principles of fixed prosthodontics and apply them in practice during your clinical placement.
