In the Spanish studies major you will learn the Spanish language and about Spanish and Latin American history and cultures. Spanish is one of the world's major languages and the first language of more than 400 million people. As well as developing your language skills, you can take subjects in Spanish and Latin American culture, linguistics, translation, literature and film. Learning Spanish will give you highly employable communication skills in a competitive globalised labour market. It is also important in international development and diplomatic contexts as an official language of the United Nations and the World Bank. As part of this major, you are encouraged to apply to do in-country study programs in Spanish through the University’s exchange programs. Digital Media is reshaping modern communication. New platforms and technologies have resulted in new consumption patterns and management, and new mediums mean new ways of communicating to different audiences.  The Digital Media major allows you to develop critical knowledge of how technology has transformed communication, as well as delivering practical skills for how to plan and produce digital media projects. You will learn how to write for digital audiences, analyse and plan social media strategy, produce video and audio content, like podcasts – and pull them all together in multimedia content packages.

Become a legal expert with valuable expertise in global affairs. You'll develop your legal knowledge and skills as you build a deep understanding of global issues, diplomacy, politics, and international trade.

Your law degree will introduce you to the fundamentals of legal practice and build your skills in advocacy, negotiation, and dispute resolution – all highly valued by employers across a range of industries.

Italian studies advanced

In the Italian Studies major you will combine the study of the language with the study of Italian culture, literature, cinema, history and translation. The primary focus of this major is on contemporary Italy, but you can explore aspects of early modern, Renaissance and twentieth-century Italy in selected subjects. A major in Italian Studies provides you with the opportunity to develop your written, spoken and comprehension skills in Italian to a high level, while enhancing your critical thinking skills, and becoming proficient at analysing texts and at presenting reasoned arguments. The Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies (GSD) major explores how our bodies and identities are categorised and lived out in social, political and ethical relations. In this major, you will examine the complex inter-relationships between sex, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, nationality, class and disability. You will explore the themes, concerns and perspectives emerging from feminist, LGBTIQ, anti-racist and decolonial social movements so that you can hone your skills in critical thinking, effective writing, media and textual analysis, historical and sociological investigations and legal interpretations.

The GSD major is unique in the way it draws on a wide variety of disciplines. This offers you the ability to explore a diverse range of perspectives and provides you with a breadth of knowledge and range of skills applicable to a range of professional, public and personal settings.

The Master of Teaching (Primary) builds preservice teacher knowledge and skills to teach across the curriculum. There is an emphasis on researching teacher practice in numeracy and literacy.

There is demand in the sector to build efficacy of graduates in the areas of diagnostic learning, special needs, pedagogical expertise and relationship skill building. This course gives you the opportunity to specialise in these areas. The pedagogical structure allows graduates to work and adapt effectively in complex contemporary learning environments.
