Zoology

Explore the evolution of the animal kingdom. You’ll learn the ecology, behaviour, physiology, development and origin of animals and examine how they interact with their environment. Develop hands-on experience with fieldwork opportunities and access to our on-campus Wildlife Sanctuary.

Students commencing their studies at Albury-Wodonga campus are required to transfer to the Melbourne campus from second year to complete this major.

Artificial intelligence

French studies extension

The French Studies major enables you to participate in a dialogue with the French-speaking world by developing your proficiency in the language and your knowledge of French history, society and culture. The French Studies major will give you access to a vast network of international communication and a rich body of literary, historical and scientific knowledge. It will also extend your knowledge into the Latin language. French is spoken on all continents and in various organisations such as the United Nations and Médecins Sans Frontières. The language prepares you to excel in numerous fields including education, translating and interpreting, foreign affairs and trade, international law and humanitarian work. You will be strongly encouraged to apply for an exchange program with one of La Trobe’s partner universities in France. (Please note: overseas programs may be impacted by travel restrictions.) You should enrol in the appropriate stream at first-year level: Beginners (students with little or no prior knowledge of French), Intermediate (students with Year 11 French or equivalent), Advanced (students with Year 12 French or equivalent) or Extended (native or near-native competency).

From day one, learn from experts and get hands-on experience in the lab with La Trobe's Bachelor of Biomedicine.

Start with how the body works as you build your fundamental knowledge of chemistry, bioscience and health. You'll take a close look at infectious diseases, including the factors that drive epidemics and pandemics.

Then take on more advanced topics in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, and human physiology. Choose subjects in data analysis, disease prevention and control, and lab-based work that'll prepare you for careers in biomedicine. Our supportive staff are available to help you tailor your degree with electives that align with the career you want. An undergraduate degree in biomedicine from La Trobe gives you the option to exit early with a Diploma or Associate Degree in Biomedicine. You can also pursue further study, such as a specialist postgraduate degree in audiology, physiotherapy, dietetic practice, genetic counselling, medicine or dentistry.
