Sports media

Sports media prepares students for careers in both sports media, and media roles in sports organisations. Students complete both the journalism major, which delivers important industry-standard technical skills, but also core sports journalism subjects that focus on specific skills like sports commentary and broadcasting. They also complete a stream of core subjects from sport management, to gain an insight on the unique business structure of sports organisations. They will be prepared to work for news organisations, independent publishers or sporting organisations.

Botany

Explore the intersection between plants and society. You’ll learn about plant ecology, physiology, reproduction and biotechnology while building skills in project design, data collection and analysis. Botany is vital to dealing with environmental issues, the sustainable food supply and the management of our natural resources.

Students commencing their studies at Albury-Wodonga campus are required to transfer to the Melbourne campus from second year to complete this major.

Melbourne’s large Greek community provides you with a stimulating cultural and social environment in which to observe and practice what you learn. You can pair language subjects at a variety of levels with cultural subjects focussed on ancient and modern Greek literature, history and society. The skills obtained in this major will prepare you for a variety of work opportunities including teaching, translating, interpreting, health, banking, tourism, and related industries in Australia and overseas. Sport management

Sport is an essential feature of Australian culture and is an important part of modern society. Our sport management industry is diverse, from managing grass roots sporting clubs and community organisations through to our elite sporting competitions, like the AFL or NRL. The sport manager  will have a strong background in both sport and business management.

The Sport Management major offered by the La Trobe Business School provides you with the business and management skills that you need to meet the demands of the growing sport industry including facilitating participation in sport, overseeing sport facilities and venues, sport marketing and revenue generation.
