Physical oceanography involves an understanding of the mathematical equations that describe fluid flow, and how these are used in the context of the oceans. It is essential to understanding climate change and global warming. You will gain an understanding of what controls coastal ocean currents, water-mass formation, upwelling, storm surges and large-scale ocean flow. You will also learn about the dynamics of a range of ocean processes, including waves, tides, beach currents and the El-Nino/Southern Oscillation.
