The Bachelor of Accounting holds triple accreditation with CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CAANZ), and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). Depending on your majors, you’ll also be eligible to become a member of the Financial Planning Association or register with the Tax Practitioners Board as a tax agent.

Financial Planning and Taxation

The Financial Planning and Taxation Major is available to participants enrolled in the Bachelor of Accounting. The specialised subjects in this major analyse contemporary issues relevant to financial planning and taxation using case studies and discussion.

The subjects is designed to meet the requirements for admission to the CFP program of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) for those seeking a career in that profession.

This major satisfies the accreditation requirements of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). Completion of this major also meets the RG146 generic knowledge requirements, specialist knowledge requirements and skills requirements as they currently stand.

This double degree provides you with the practical skills and knowledge required to excel in the fields of both business and law. The Bachelor of Business degree gives you the knowledge to create a career as a business professional. Whether you wish to pursue a corporate role in a global enterprise or start your own business, this degree will provide you with the skills to do it.  

The Bachelor of Laws program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills.

Economics

The Economics major provides a broad pluralist perspective on fundamental aspects of relationships between individuals, firms, institutions and countries.

Students will learn how economies function and how public policy and the way organisations behave affect diverse social, economic and environmental problems. Students are introduced to a wide array of competing economic theories, so that they are critically informed about the ways in which they can transform the world.

A major in Economics prepares students to be active participants in addressing the wide range of problems faced by governments, social organisations and the business community in the domestic and international economies.

Students who study economics can expect to develop their analytical and problem solving skills and to be intellectually challenged, whether they view the discipline as providing specific vocational skills or as an area of academic and intellectual interest to them.

In the Bachelor of Communication, through classwork, independent study and engagement with the multicultural nature of our communities, students develop an understanding of the local and international relevance of their chosen studies, with opportunities to develop and produce a range of media outcomes as applied research and professional projects throughout their studies.

The program provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in legal advocacy, negotiation, and legal technology and extend their professional and learning experiences through work integrated learning, clinical placement and international exchange engagements.

 Public Affairs

The Public Relations major covers the skills and knowledge required in the profession of public relations, including event management, issues and crisis management and campaign development.

The major focuses on the role of the public relations practitioner or adviser and provides a theoretical framework of the industry. Students engage with both theory and practical projects and complete an internship placement.

Sustainable environmental

Understanding how life interacts with water, soil and the atmosphere empowers us to develop sustainable management solutions for our most pressing environmental challenges. In this major you will learn how to apply fundamental scientific knowledge to evaluate and mitigate the impacts of human activities on natural and managed ecosystems, including the built environment. You will have access to world class ecological and environmental research facilities, and will engage in hands-on, field-based learning, taught by a team at the cutting edge of research in this field.

This major will prepare you for careers in urban and natural resource management, environmental consultancy, sustainability planning, biological conservation and environmental policy.

The business component of the double degree will allow you to gain knowledge in one of three core Business areas: Money, Markets or Management. The Money area encompasses majors in Applied Finance and Economics, while Markets centre around majors in Hospitality, Sport Management, International Business and Marketing. Finally the Management area includes majors in Human Resources and Management.

Your  knowledge is augmented with study in the Information Systems domain including, but not limited to, system analysis and design, information systems, programing, database design and development, networking, system deployment and management, web and mobile development and social computing.

Sport Management

The Sport Management major is designed for people who seek careers in Australian and international Sport management. Specialist subjects provide students with a capacity to understand and function within the increasingly dedicated context in which sport is played, organised and managed.

Students who complete this major will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to manage sport experiences pertaining to globalisation and emerging contemporary issues in sport.

Western’s Bachelor of Nursing This program prepares graduates for eligibility to apply for registration throughout Australia as a registered nurse. The focus of the program is on inquiry-based learning, critical thinking and reflective practice in relation to the theory and practice of nursing in health and health breakdown across the lifespan. Using a primary health care framework, students study the application of physical and behavioural sciences to nursing; inquiry and evidence-based practice principles and utilisation within nursing; nursing care of individuals, families and groups from diverse backgrounds across the lifespan. The acquisition of nursing knowledge and skills occurs initially in campus-based simulated clinical practice settings and consolidation occurs as students undertake clinical placements in a variety of health care settings. Our program reflects contemporary practices in nursing, health and education, and responds to emerging trends.

This degree equips practitioners with the knowledge and professional competencies required for a career in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and herb dispensing.

Building a solid, broad understanding of biomedicine and various health science fields in this way will give you a deeper understanding of TCM and help you to work in interdisciplinary teams and centres and assist you in advising clients on treatment options.

To graduate with a Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, you will be required to complete all compulsory subjects. You will study core common subjects with other health science and allied health students.

In this program, you will share your new knowledge and experiences with other students and, together, gain professional competencies, important for ethical and safe practice and high-quality care. The skills you will gain in communication and working with people will be valuable throughout your career and in your life.

Starting in the first session of first year, you will also take TCM subjects. The final two years of the program focus on clinical skills, practical experience and specialised areas such as skin disease, gynaecology and the musculoskeletal system. TCM subjects cover acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, herbal dispensing, Chinese medical theory and clinical assessment.

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) program is designed for high achieving law students who wish to undertake an extended level of study and research. There is no direct entry into the Honours program. Entry is by application only following completion of at least 160 credit points of Law study and by meeting other specified criteria.The Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) (Honours) program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills. The program provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, self-management, and ethical and professional awareness and judgement. This double degree program allows you to span both the commercial and scientific worlds in a way that a single degree cannot.
