This double degree allows you to tailor your studies to your speci?c goals by combining your Bachelor of Social Science with our accredited Bachelor of Laws degree. The Bachelor of Social Science will expand your knowledge through theory, research and practical application and offers you a deep understanding of our complex, culturally diverse and dynamic world. The social science degree is a broadly based, inter-disciplinary program that provides flexibility and choice within a range of social science subject offerings. The degree seeks to equip students with the interdisciplinary and specialist skills and knowledge that a new graduate would need on entering the workforce or on proceeding to advanced study.

The Bachelor of Laws program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills.

Anthropology
Social Anthropology is the study of humans and the cultures they create. The major in Anthropology offers students the opportunity to examine social patterns and practices across cultures, to discover similarities and differences between cultures, and to understand the processes by which humans organise and create meaning.

Areas of focus include the development of anthropology as a discipline; globalisation and culture; power and politics; gender and sexuality; identity and belonging; ethnography and ethnographic methods; indigenous peoples and nation states. Specific attention is given to cultures of Australasia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, and to cross cultural interactions, at both global and local levels.

The major seeks to equip students with multi-cultural knowledge as well as to provide a thorough grounding in research methods and ethics with utility in a variety of professional and academic contexts.

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) program is designed for high achieving law students who wish to undertake an extended level of study and research. There is no direct entry into the Honours program. Entry is by application only following completion of at least 160 credit points of Law study and by meeting other specified criteria.The Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) (Honours) program satisfies the academic degree requirements for admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. Students will engage in collaborative face-to-face problem and case-based learning, will be supported by online learning materials, and will participate in authentic assessment to develop knowledge and skills. The program provides students with a broad progressive legal education with a strong practical orientation to the law. Students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, self-management, and ethical and professional awareness and judgement. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in legal advocacy, negotiation, and legal technology and extend their professional and learning experiences through work integrated learning, clinical placement and international exchange engagements.

Our Bachelor of Health Science combines study with hands-on experience and allows you to major in one or two specialisations in the areas of health promotion, health services management, recreational therapy, clinical sciences and public health. The program is designed to give you the skills you need to work with clients and develop great services which promote health and well-being.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational Therapy links leisure and health improvement. As a Recreational Therapy graduate you will work with patients to use leisure activities to improve health and life quality in rehabilitation centres, psychiatric subjects, special schools, day care centres, aged care facilities, schools, correctional centres, private practice and in a range of local government or community services settings.

Recreational Therapy combines theory and practice in learning, education programming, aged care, disability and mental health, with a comprehensive foundation in the health sciences. You will develop the professional skills important for ethical and safe practice and high-quality care. Evidence-based practice is one of the most important trends in healthcare today and is a strong feature of the program.

The recreational therapy program is offered on campus or fully online. You can combine this testamur major in Recreational Therapy with a minor called Leisure for Diverse Groups (recommended), or health promotion, public health, physical activity, or choose up to 40 credit points of electives based on your interests.

This double degree program allows you to span both the legal and scientific worlds. This Bachelor of Science asks questions about how the natural world works and the impact of humans at its interface. It does so in a systematic, yet rigorously creative way based on inquiry and evidence. Forensic Science

This major provides students specialised expertise in forensic science including methods of forensic analysis, crime scene investigation, forensic photography, forensic investigation, crime and criminal justice and complex cases. Career opportunities include forensic scientists, crime scene investigators, private investigators and consultants, police officers, drug analysts, researchers and academics, and specialised forensic science practitioners. The main employers of forensic scientists are State and Federal police services, State and Commonwealth Government Health Departments and analytical chemistry laboratories. Graduates will be versatile with a wide skills base with (depending on their choice of electives) potential for employment in analytical chemistry and microbiology, quality control and assurance, biochemistry and molecular biology, scientific research, education and the chemical industry.

The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the places we live, work and play all have major impacts on our health and well-being. Construction Management Studies at Western mixes work experience with study resulting in theoretical, practical and hands-on knowledge that is greatly valued in the construction industry. Your studies will include practical experiments in building technology such as acoustics, heat flow through a building, corrosion of materials, concerete testing and more.

The skills you develop will then be used during your 1,200 hours of approved practical experience during the duration of the program.

Our Bachelor of Health Science combines study with hands-on experience and allows you to major in one or two specialisations in the areas of health promotion, health services management, recreational therapy, clinical sciences and public health. Public Health

Public health is the science of improving health for individuals and their communities through disease prevention. This work is achieved by promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease prevention, conducting population health assessment and measurement, improving environmental health, engaging the community and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases.  As a Public Health graduate, you will get to work in a variety of settings, including national and state health departments, community organisations and the global health sector. The Public Health major builds your knowledge of the biological, social, cultural, economic and physical factors that underpin the health of a population and how to promote health for all. You will also develop and use skills in epidemiology and biostatistics, surveillance and prevention, and public health policy.

The business component of the double degree will allow you to gain knowledge in one of three core Business areas: Money, Markets or Management. The Money area encompasses majors in Applied Finance and Economics, while Markets centre around majors in Hospitality, Sport Management, International Business and Marketing. Finally the Management area includes majors in Human Resources and Management.

Your  knowledge is augmented with study in the Information Systems domain including, but not limited to, system analysis and design, information systems, programing, database design and development, networking, system deployment and management, web and mobile development and social computing.
