Heritage and Tourism

This major introduces contemporary heritage issues and provides an in-depth understanding of tourism as a social phenomenon. It enables a critical examination of the relationship between heritage and tourism in number of settings within Australia (including Indigenous Australia) and internationally.

Human Resource Management

The Human Resource Management Major is designed for people who seek careers in human resource management and industrial relations.

Graduates’ careers focus on enhancing the value of human and social capital through supporting employee engagement for many different kinds of organisations, market-oriented and community-oriented organisations and many kinds of people. The teaching philosophy is based on knowledge in action, a fusion of the Australia Human Resource Institute’s capabilities for HR professionals and the Western Sydney University Graduate Attributes designed to secure success.

An aim of the program is to instil those values and attitudes that can support leaders in judgements about balancing the pursuit of organisational objectives with creating opportunities for developing people’s capacities and careers. The Bachelor of Criminology degree offers students the opportunity to study crime and criminal justice in both a conceptual and an applied way that particularly stresses social and cultural definitions of criminality and the reactions to it.

Construction Management Studies at Western mixes work experience with study resulting in theoretical, practical and hands-on knowledge that is greatly valued in the construction industry. Your studies will include practical experiments in building technology such as acoustics, heat flow through a building, corrosion of materials, concerete testing and more.

 Anatomy and Physiology

This degree will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the basic sciences underpinning human health, wellbeing and its application to human disease. The anatomy and physiology major focuses on the anatomy and physiology of the human body in relation to health and disease. Students must maintain a grade point average of 5 or above to remain in the program. Those who do not maintain this average will be transferred to the Bachelor of Medical Science.

As a Health Services Management graduate, you can work in quality improvement, project and resource management, and digital health.

Western’s Bachelor of Paramedicine gives you the skills and knowledge you need to be a paramedic and play an integral role in the health system, responding to emergencies involving patients with a range of health problems in diverse settings. When you graduate, you will have the required skills to work in an ambulance service, the private paramedical industry or the defence forces.

The Bachelor of Paramedicine has a strong evidence-based focus and uses innovative blended learning and assessment strategies, together with clinical placements, to develop high-level, practical and clinical decision-making skills.

You will be learning in our innovative teaching facility, including simulation rooms, debrief rooms, and an immersive simulation lab with control room.

In second and third year, you’ll be given three months of supervised clinical experience with an emergency ambulance service in rural or metropolitan NSW or the ACT. You’ll also have a chance to take up an international clinical placement, or short placements in the private paramedicine industry, mental health services, and community and primary healthcare.

This program prepares you for out-of-hospital care to patients of all ages, dealing with health complaints that range from minor to critical.
