This outstanding double degree program combines a 4 year Bachelor of Engineering (honours) degree with the 3 year Bachelor of Business degree to yield a course of study that takes only 5 years to complete (in Full-time mode).The Engineering component of this program is offered at the Penrith and Parramatta City campuses, and the Business component is offered at the Parramatta City campus.

Electrical

The Electrical Engineering major includes core subjects from all branches of electrical engineering. Electrical Engineering program is one of the flagships of Western’s engineering whose core subjects such as Electrical Fundamentals, Power Electronics, Engineering Electromagnetics form the foundation for other programs such as Software Engineering and Biomedical Engineering program. Because of the vibrant and diverse offerings of Western’s engineering, its graduates will work in the fields of electronic components, computers, electro-magnetics, power generation and distribution systems, power and control in public utilities, telecommunications, manufacturing, and electrical systems.

The Management major equips you with the expert skills to create a career as a management specialist. You will be prepared to succeed in a range of roles in contemporary private, public, and not-for-profit organisations in Australia and abroad. In this major you will develop strategic management knowledge to enable effective organisational decision making. The units in this major focus on organisational learning and development and behaviour, operations management, leadership and entrepreneurship, change and innovation, and policy. Criminology And Criminal Justice

This criminology major offers students the opportunity to study crime and criminal justice in a critical way that particularly stresses social and cultural definitions of criminality and the reactions to it.

Areas of focus include criminal justice institutions and practices; the development of criminology as a discipline and its various strands; forms and patterns of victimisation; crime prevention strategies and debates; aspects of juvenile justice; the evolution of prisons and different forms of punishment; law enforcement and surveillance; violence, gender and crime; cultural depictions of crime and contemporary debates in criminology.

Western’s Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) prepares you for an unlimited career in the building industry. Along with the full suite of theory and practical knowledge that enable to develop a broad-based view of how the construction industry operates, you will gain a strong understanding of construction technology; construction economics; construction law; and construction project management through this degree.

You could also opt to specialise either in ‘quantity surveying’ or ‘building surveying’ by undertaking relevant suite of electives under each specialisation pathways.

With the 1200 hours of industry based experience requirement before graduation, the program is offered with flexible and condensed timetables to enable you to undertake industry cadetships and other work-integrated learning activities.

There is an urgent need for Humanitarian Workers worldwide. Western is taking the lead in training the next generation of qualified Humanitarian and Development Aid Workers.

The Bachelor of Humanitarian and Development Studies is unique being the only degree of its kind in Australia. This program was developed in consultation with NGOs to ensure what you learn is current and practical. Academics delivering this program include experts and practitioners from the United Nations agencies and international NGOs to ensure what you learn is current and practical. 

You will gain knowledge and practical experience in disaster management, humanitarian response and development assistance. Using our state of the art facilities, the experiential learning techniques applied utilise your theoretical knowledge for emedded simulation activities, case, problem and solution-based studies. We offer students regular opportunities with experts and practitioners from the United Nations agencies and international NGOs as guest speakers, seminars and career panels.

The comprehensive field experience package enhances your learning, research and real world experience to ensure you are career ready. A major component of the degree is a placement overseas for a full semester, which will be assisted by international partners including United Nations agencies and international NGOs. During your placement you will work on implementing life-saving programs and policies.

The specialist knowledge of engineering technologists is a key element in the practice of engineering. The engineering technologist’s focused learning and practical skills are highly utilised in industry and make a significant contribution to Australian engineering success and prosperity.

Materials

Since the dawning of mankind an understanding of how materials can be obtained and used has been critical to successful human endeavour. Materials engineers are concerned with the highly technological and dynamic process of understanding, developing, and applying materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites) to a range of engineering problems. Students will develop skills necessary to synthesise relevant information so that they can be effective decision makers in a materials context. These skills will serve them well in varied career opportunities associated with biomedical devices, nanotechnology, advanced manufacturing, opto-electronics, energy, aerospace, and sustainable construction.
