The Earth Sciences program trains geoscientists — scientists who study the Earth and other planets in order to better understand their origin and history.

We know the Earth’s history reasonably well, and that knowledge has helped us to discover natural resources, such as oil and gas, economic minerals and metals, and to understand phenomena, such as global climate change and volcano and earthquake hazards. The geological knowledge derived from the Earth also helps us to better understand other solar system bodies. Two of our professors are planetary geologists, including Dr. Mariek Schmidt who is a member of NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory Project that operates the rover Curiosity as it explores Gale Crater.

Brock’s program is designed to comply with the educational requirements for initial registration as a geoscientist-in-training, the licensing classification that leads to the PGeo designation established by the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario.

History is at the heart of every educated citizen. To understand the present and prepare for the future, one must learn about the past.

At Brock, History is much more than memorizing facts and dates — it involves exploring changes and continuities in bygone societies, cultures and peoples.

The study of History entails following your interests and curiosities, evaluating and interpreting evidence, as well as formulating logical arguments based on that evidence.

The History Co-op program gives students the opportunity to gain job experience in a diverse range of professional fields at the same time that they are working on a well-rounded education. The History Co-op program combines academic and work terms over a four year period. Students spend two years in an academic setting prior to taking the first work placement.

Biophysics is the physics of life, of all living systems and their interaction with their surroundings, both natural and artificial. It is a rapidly advancing field, encompassing a wide variety of areas in natural and life sciences.

Biophysics uses all methods of scientific inquiry — theory, experiment and large-scale computer simulation — to understand living systems at the molecular level.

Biophysics also forms the basis of many aspects of medical physics, another rapidly developing field in much demand right now.

Brock’s Biophysics program will provide you with a superb learning environment and exciting research opportunities. Extended research opportunities are available through Brock’s participation in the Biophysics Interdepartmental Group (BIG), based at the University of Guelph.

Create a custom program for yourself. This program has been designed for individuals wishing to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue further undergraduate and graduate studies, or careers in the sciences in a personalized and flexible way.
You may complete your degree within the program or use it as a foundation to join another program of your choice in the health, life or natural sciences.
It is ideally suited to students who are looking for plenty of choice as they develop their study plan. It could include the specific combination of courses required for admission into graduate or professional studies or simply courses that best serve your personal goals and aspirations.

We have some of the most advanced equipment in the field. While other schools often reserve the newest equipment exclusively for research, all of Brock’s facilities are used for both teaching and research.

Our commitment to hands-on learning makes our graduates, especially skilled and adept scientists. You’ll be a key partner in our research activities, participating in special research courses and paid summer research. You might even have the opportunity to co-author a publication.

The Certificate in Drama in Education and Applied Theatre would be of particular interest to social workers, drama therapists, psycho-therapists, prison counsellors, people who train volunteers, personnel managers, union organizers and market consultants who wish to add to existing qualifications or to acquire courses which might later be applied to a degree. Studies include the development of skills, such as assessing and evaluating what is perceived, generating ideas, making connections, predicting outcomes, empathizing, abstracting the core from the periphery, questioning, accommodating and compromising and self-presentation. 

Our BA in General Humanities is designed to allow you to pursue a more flexible selection of courses, with broad exposure to courses from across all of our Faculties.

At the same time, the degree provides the opportunity to focus on a particular area of study, with the majority of courses taken in disciplines within the Faculty of Humanities. You also have the option of including up to two minors in this degree.

Neuroscience is the study of the nervous system and how it generates behaviour in animals and humans.

You’ll study the link between neural function and behaviour at many levels by using techniques in molecular genetics, biochemistry, cellular physiology, neuroanatomy, electrophysiology, pharmacology, behavioural biology, neuropsychology, cognitive psychology and kinesiology. You’ll also assist in active neuroscience laboratory research dealing with humans and non-humans.

Choose courses from four streams to better fit your personal interests: neurobiology, neuropsychology, neurocomputing or neuromotor.

The course is apt for students who wish to be a part of intensive clinical practice and train themselves as nurses. Brock University has been recognized by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) with a seven-year accreditation term for their commitment to providing excellence in nursing education. One can either complete all the four years at Brock or complete the first two at Loyalist College in Belleville, ON and then transfer to Brock for their third and fourth year. 

You’ll be on the forefront of research in this exciting and knowledge-based industry. You’ll take courses in biological sciences, chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology, exploring the use of living organisms to produce goods and services for practical and industrial purposes.

Career opportunities in biotechnology are expanding rapidly due to a dramatic increase in global market demands for biotechnology products.

As a modern biotechnologist, you’ll study areas such as recombinant DNA technology, genetic and protein engineering, cell fusion, and gene cloning and expression.
