Personal health information about Canadians is being collected, recorded, reviewed and transmitted every day. Informed decisions affecting health services can only be achieved with the best information available.

The role of health information management goes beyond managing health records to managing the information contained in those records. Using computer skills and knowledge of healthcare fundamentals, critical medical information is translated from patient health records into data following national data standards. The health information management professional then interprets the data to provide comprehensive quality information for patient care, resource allocation, statistics, research, planning and education.

The Health Information Management program is two years in length and is divided into three semesters each year. The fall and winter semesters for year one and two involve classroom instruction, some of which is in a computer lab at SAIT working with industry-specific software.

The spring semester for year one involves a six-week unpaid practicum placement at a small to medium sized healthcare facility. During the spring semester of year two, students will complete an eight-week unpaid practicum at a healthcare facility or organization.

This two-year diploma program is Western Canada’s only management-oriented training program designed in cooperation with, and specifically for, the automotive industry.

New Media Production and Design is a technology centred program that promotes critical thinking to develop engaging content for web-based user experiences and provides comprehensive training in the tools and techniques used for web design and development.

The program emphasizes project­-based and hands-on training, with students working in teams to produce comprehensive and useful media products.

Create a career as a mechanical, civil, process piping, electrical or structural technologist. With hands-on learning and instruction you will gain the practical and technical experience focused on the principles of engineering and drafting.

The program provides graduates with the essential skills sought after by a variety of engineering enterprises. Your instructors will be experienced practitioners who will help you develop your technical and professional skills based on relevant practices. This diploma program is two years in length, consisting of four 15-week semesters.

Accreditation

• This program is nationally accredited, at the technologist level, by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT) and Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC). Graduates are eligible for membership in the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals in Alberta (ASET).

The Civil Engineering Technology program uses math, science and technical communication skills to design and manage the construction of buildings, roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects.

The program will prepare you to become a civil engineering design and construction professional. You will receive courses in math, construction management, structural design, geotechnical engineering, material science, urban services, water resources, transportation infrastructure and technical communications.

In the labs, you will build a house, explore the strength of building materials, mix and test concrete and asphalt samples, and discover the importance of soil mechanics to building projects. In class, the program combines theoretical training, applied skills and laptop delivery modules.

This diploma program is two years in length, consisting of four 15-week semesters. The first two semesters are common to all students in the program. In the fourth semester, you will have the ability to specialize in Construction Management or Municipal Engineering. If an option is oversubscribed, selection is based on the first-year cumulative grade point average.

This program accepts students into the first semester in September as well as January. Students starting in the fall will study for two semesters per year with a summer break in between. Students starting in the winter semester will study for four consecutive semesters with a one or two-week break between semesters.

The reuse of treated wastewater has become a sustainable option for minimizing water scarcity problems. Learn the skills needed for a rewarding career in municipal and industrial water/wastewater systems.

Graduates will develop a working knowledge and skills related to treatment technologies and water/wastewater systems operations including related laboratory analytics. Through in-class learning and recognized work experience they will be prepared to write industry required certification exams including the 4th class power engineering and water/wastewater treatment.

Graduates of the program will possess the following proficiencies:

• Perform water analysis tasks to support plant water quality targets
• Analyze current and past data to support plant performance decisions
• Apply knowledge of water/wastewater system processes including pressure vessels and power generating equipment to achieve performance requirements
• Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks
• Apply fundamental knowledge of chemistry and biology to maintain process performance
• Operate according to all applicable regulatory guidelines
• Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve optimum process performance
• Control water/wastewater collection and distribution systems
• Run high-pressure boiler and steam systems

Courses in power theory, thermodynamics and extensive lab training prepare you to take responsibility for complex power systems working as a plant operator or design, research or development assistant in industries like petroleum, petrochemical and refining.

Our Power Engineering Technology diploma arms you with the skills to become a third-class power engineer responsible for controlling large, complex power and process systems and performing production work in the operation and development of large-scale energy projects.

Build a career in software development with training in object-oriented programming, web-based application development and relational databases, while using up-to-date development tools and standards.

The Object-Oriented Software Developer (OOSD) program is designed to provide you with the knowledge and practice you need to develop solid software development skills in minimal time. This program takes you from introductory concepts to advanced techniques in only 32 weeks.

You will gain experience in several object-oriented programming languages, web-based and Internet application development and relational databases while using a vast array of development tools. Mobile application development has recently been added to the program. After 24 weeks of formal instruction, you will put your knowledge and skills to work in a mandatory eight-week work practicum.

Study the business side of the energy industry and learn about contracts, leases and regulatory obligations in preparation for a career in mineral and surface land management, well asset management or operations accounting.

As a student in the Energy Asset Management program, you’ll study the business side of the energy industry and learn to handle contracts, leases, regulatory obligations and accounting tasks. You’ll leave SAIT with the skills you need to confidently enter the high-demand field of energy asset management.

Gain practical business knowledge in courses blending theory and hands-on learning in the core areas of business including economics, communication and organizational behaviour. Build a career in one of six majors - accounting, financial services, human resource management, management, marketing or supply chain management.

Engage in small classes with active, collaborative coursework, learning from faculty with real business experience. You work in teams to deliver projects, present strategies and meet business goals. You start with a common first year to build core business skills. In year two, you become proficient in your choice of major: Accounting, Financial Services, Human Resource Management, Management, Marketing or Supply Chain Management.

You begin the program with a small business simulation. Then you progress to your final capstone course - a global simulation of an international enterprise where you make all decisions from manufacturing and production to hiring your workforce, determining pricing and promotional strategy and more.
