This course will give you an understanding of how international relations theory is applied to real-world policy and strategy, and the practical problems involved in this.

You’ll examine the theory and definition of the ‘state’ and relations between different states, and the roles of other institutions and organisations, like multinational companies and transnational crime organisations. All your studies will contain a strong vocational element, with a focus on how theory affects, and is affected, by real events on the ground.

As well as this foundation in general international relations theory and practice, you’ll also have the chance to focus on your own areas of interest. Our optional modules will let you choose from subjects like the global risk society, policing and security, corruption and cross-border crime, war reporting, and terrorism.

To develop your decision-making, planning and debating skills, you’ll take part in interactive sessions, respond to specific scenarios and briefs, and undertake critical analysis. You’ll also receive advanced instruction in research methods, a vital skill both for your studies and your future career.

Our Nursing and Midwifery Council validated Adult Nursing degree course places equal value on clinical practice and theory. It’ll take you from university lectures to a variety of placements. You may well find yourself working with younger and mature adults at a GP surgery, attending health visits or in a variety of hospital settings, from A&E through to acute care and oncology.

Placements last around seven to 12 weeks and include both acute and community settings. There are opportunities in older person care, dementia care, district nursing, surgical setting and more. There’s also the option of a self-funded overseas placement at the end of Year 2.

You’ll be linked to one of our NHS healthcare trust partners for your placements.

• If you study in Cambridge or Peterborough, you’ll do your placements in or around Cambridge, Huntingdon or Peterborough.
• If you study in Chelmsford, you’ll do your placements in or around Chelmsford, Southend, Basildon, Harlow or Colchester.

We want to make sure you experience a variety of placements and that you graduate as an effective practitioner. Our placement maps will help you plan your travel before you start on the course.

On placement, you’ll be working shifts. This can mean early, late and night shifts, as well as working weekends and bank holidays. You’ll be supported by practice supervisors and assessors as well as staff from ARU.

Meanwhile, teaching on campus usually takes place between 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.

Each year, you’ll get allocated annual leave at set points to support you in balancing your course and relaxation time.

Throughout your time studying Adult Nursing at ARU, you’ll have the chance to share experiences with students from other health care courses, and to see how the professions work together to provide effective and seamless care.

By studying BA (Hons) Interior Design at ARU, you’ll explore the relationships between design, experience and narrative.

With our small studio groups, your tutors will really get to know you and your work, and help you become a resilient interior designer with a distinctive creative voice.

Design can reveal a lot about the people who use a space, and the community they inhabit. On our BA (Hons) Interior Design degree you’ll learn to create effective design proposals, while considering how to develop spaces that connect stories with people.

Throughout the course, you’ll be encouraged to propose design questions, such as: How can public spaces cater for multiple activities and users? How much space do we need to live in? How do major brands reinvent themselves to respond to new markets?

We think your ideas and design skills are important. You’ll develop these by working in small teams at different stages of your degree, sometimes alongside students from other creative courses.

There’s also the opportunity to get inspired on European field trips, and to study abroad for a semester – with funding available to help cover the cost.

With small studio groups, you’ll engage in a consistent conversation with your tutors too. It’s one of the reasons our Design & Crafts courses ranked 8th in the UK for 'Satisfied with Course' and 3rd for 'Satisfied with Teaching' (The Guardian University Guide 2020).

With an eye on your future career, you’ll receive ongoing support to find placements and work experience and you can also take an optional placement year.

You can see your designs become reality in live projects and foster professional relationships through Design Bench, a series of industry networking meetings.

Our course is delivered through a blend of online learning and residential sessions to give you a flexible, practical and career-enhancing learning experience. As a guide, we suggest you plan for five to seven hours of online study per week when you're not attending a residential.

As well as completing an undergraduate major project, you'll learn about: 

• Tinnitus assessment and management
• Managing people with specialist needs
• Implantable hearing devices
• Hearing in children
• Advances in adult audiology.

You'll study using our Learning management system, CANVAS, and there are also seven three-or-four-day residential weeks between September and April. (For part-time students, these sessions will be spread over two academic years.) You will attend both class and lab-based taught sessions with fellow students, and engage in student-led discussions and practical assignments.

We'll confirm the dates of residential sessions as soon as we can, so that you can plan around your work and book your accommodation in advance.
Please note that this course doesn't currently provide a direct route to the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP). However, you can pursue an alternative pathway to registration after qualification.

As a BA (Hons) Film Production student at ARU, you will be supported by award-winning, lecturers whose work has been screened on all the major UK television networks, as well as at multiple international film festivals. They have won Emmys, HUGOs and BAFTAs and continue to practice.

With their encouragement, you'll produce a rage of programmes and films which may ultimately be as prize and film festival worthy as recent student work. Our second year documentary, Tertiary Sound was officially selected for the BFI London Film Festival and in competitions like the Royal Television Society (East) Student Awards, our students have a growing tradition of success. Study MA Human-Centred Design at ARU, and develop the theoretical, practical, and leadership skills, understanding and knowledge that are critical to creating dynamic and connected modes of engagement with the everyday physical and digital life; the climate and nature; and business. You’ll gain a broad understanding of people, culture, and context from the perspective of design, and tackle human and planet-related issues in a global context by introducing new forms of process, tools, and methods.You’ll work closely with students from across the Cambridge School of Art, including postgraduate students from Interior Design Innovation and Art, Health, and Wellbeing on an industry-led collaborative project, and deliver public-facing events. As a Human-Centred Design student in Cambridge, you’ll be able to work in a start-up environment and a relaxed culture in which creativity and creative problem solving are valued, building strong relationships and freely exchanging thoughts and ideas. Most importantly, you’ll receive support and guidance from our experienced staff who, as well as running their own studio practice, have worked with companies such as Nokia, Hitachi, Ogilvy, Unilever, Ford, and Dyson. The creative freedom offered by the course results in a variety of degree outputs based on design futuring, ideas and methods for design as an expanded ethical and professional practice, from new product development to new experiences and services, systems, and models.

Our Animal Behaviour BSc (Hons) course is the longest-established animal behaviour course in the UK and is recognised by the Society of Biology.

By the end of the course, you’ll have experience covering the full life cycle of a web application, specifically:

• Developing the front end and back end of a web app whilst securely storing the data in relational databases
• Using ontologies as an alternative to the databases to store information and query it
• Recognising the vulnerabilities and learning techniques to build secure systems
• Being confident in knowing the infrastructure required to deploy web applications successfully.

From here, you’ll be able to successfully apply your knowledge to the development of any other type of software application (being it mobile, cloud, standalone).
