Psychology and the exploration of the mind has been discussed for millennia, although it’s still young as a practice. This course will help you develop the scientific understanding of the different perspectives and theoretical approaches within the core areas of psychology, and the relations between them.

You’ll learn how psychology is influenced by many different factors. Through our modules you’ll see how physiology can influence someone, with the way our bodies react to the chemicals they create, the impact of external influences, like society, how different languages change the way you look at the world, and the importance of childhood development.

You’ll also learn how to design research projects, from the first idea through to how to make it work, explore different research methods, and gain the skills to manage a project ethically and professionally. You’ll design and conduct your own research project, and acquire all the skills required by the British Psychological Society (BPS) to register with them as a graduate member (in order to be eligible to register you will need an overall pass mark of 50% in your degree).

Develop your skills in major areas of biomedical science, including molecular cell biology, biomedical genetics and specialised topics in medical diagnostics. You'll focus on rapidly-evolving research into the applications of bioscience in healthcare whilst working in our impressive Cambridge Science Centre laboratories.

Throughout our course you'll develop advanced knowledge and skills in the diverse areas of applied bioscience, emphasising on medical applications You'll also develop a comprehensive understanding of advanced analytical techniques. Upon completion of your Masters, you'll be able to confidently design, execute and critically analyse both independent and group based scientific research in an appropriate area of applied bioscience.

You'll be immersed in an environment that mirrors a modern laboratory setting and benefit from the expertise of our Biomedical Science team and their intimate knowledge and collaborations within the field of bioscience.

The state-of-the art facilities in our new Science Centre include specialist tissue culture and microbiology laboratories, as well as general teaching and research labs. We have a wide range of specialist laboratory equipment which you will use in practicals and your projects. We maintain strong links to a number of hospitals within the NHS, and related industries within the East of England.

Our course is suitable for those who wish to specialise in the current medical applications of bioscience such as molecular and cell biology as a progression from a relevant first degree, as well as students with a strong background in ‘traditional’ analytical science (chemistry or biology).

As well as covering the basics, our course includes a number of optional modules. Choose to explore business innovation, financial management, leadership or intercultural management – and tailor your studies to suit your interests.

As a BA (Hons) Criminology and Policing student at ARU, we’ll help you work towards your career goals from day one.

Through our relationship with regional police forces and practitioners, you’ll have opportunities to engage with professionals from the criminal justice sector through guest lectures (including those organised by our Policing Institute for the Eastern Region, workshop events, study trips and research projects.

Through five modules you will learn about Consumer Psychology.
