As student at ARU, you'll create a diverse portfolio of work that will prepare you for the modern collaborative creative industries, whether you want to produce and release your own or others’ music, perform as a DJ, or create soundtracks for films and games.

Our BA (Hons) Electronic Music Production degree will help you produce your music projects to a professional standard, no matter your current level of experience. You might be a ‘bedroom producer’ needing to broaden your understanding of production technologies or how to market your work, or an established producer hoping to brush up on particular techniques, such as finalising projects.

You’ll develop your skills in DAW-based production and studio recording to an advanced level, exploring a diverse range of materials such as field recordings, music apps, synthesisers, and vocal recordings that you can use to enhance your creative projects.

Our course is delivered through a blend of online learning and residential sessions to give you a flexible, practical and career-enhancing learning experience. As a guide, we suggest you plan for five to seven hours of online study per week when you're not attending a residential.

As well as completing an undergraduate major project, you'll learn about:

• Managing people with specialist needs
• Implantable hearing devices
• Hearing in children
• Advances in adult audiology.

You'll study using our Learning management system, CANVAS, and there are also seven three-or-four-day residential weeks between September and April. (For part-time students, these sessions will be spread over two academic years.) You will attend both class and lab-based taught sessions with fellow students, and engage in student-led discussions and practical assignments.

We'll confirm the dates of residential sessions as soon as we can, so that you can plan around your work and book your accommodation in advance.
Please note that this course doesn't currently provide a direct route to the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP). However, you can pursue an alternative pathway to registration after qualification.

Our BA (Hons) Visual Effects Technical Art will help you become an artist skilled in the latest procedural 3D techniques, who can work alongside programmers, developers and other artists.Using the latest procedural content creation software, you’ll learn to design and deploy solutions to problems encountered in the video games and visual effects industries.

As well as exploring the key areas of working with VFX and computer graphics, our course will keep you up to date with the latest techniques and trends. We'll also help you identify the supporting skills and knowledge that you’ll need to succeed in the creative industries.

Throughout your Visual Effects Technical Art degree, our expert staff are on hand to offer support and feedback. They’ll help you create an online presence to showcase your work. All our lecturers and staff are researchers and practitioners, and their work reflects current VFX practice.

Using real-world challenges as your starting point, our BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance degree will equip you with all the skills you need to dive into the world of business. Whether it’s through our Bloomberg Financial Markets Lab, out on placement or through an internship, you’ll get the chance to put what you learn to the test.

Our Accounting and Finance degree course will set you up with all the theoretical and practical knowledge you need to work in finance or as an accountant once you graduate from ARU.

You’ll develop your skills in information design, visual identities, packaging and promotion, cross-platform advertising and design for the web. You’ll work in our dedicated Graphic Design Mac suites and base room, bouncing ideas off other student designers and getting guidance and support from the course team, all of whom have worked in the design industry for clients including Tesco, Lotus Cars, Manchester United, Saatchi & Saatchi, The NUS, and the UK Film Council.

You’ll also work closely with a number of graphic design studios, including?Cambridge University Press, CPL,?The District, and Onespacemedia, who will set your live briefs as well as providing lectures and one-to-one feedback, ending with a final review that can often lead to work placements, internships and long-term professional relationships.

You’ll also go on field trips, enter design competitions including Penguin Random House Student Design Awards, YCN?or?D&AD? and can choose to join our annual visit to Amsterdam. There’s even the chance to study abroad for a semester, with funding on offer to help cover the costs.

With its vibrant studio culture, our Graphic Design degree will encourage you to push boundaries and challenge existing thinking by developing innovative design solutions as well as a keen understanding of professional practice. You’ll experiment with print-based design as well as digital commercial practices including site-specific, interactive, motion graphics, mobile media, app design (UX/UI), web and multimedia work.

Focusing a range of periods and themes including British and global histories, race and politics, gender, sexuality and the body, and also how we recreate history, you’ll take part in hands-on historical research to make sense of how past events have shaped our world today.

Cambridge is the perfect place to study history. Thanks to our close links with local organisations, you’ll find yourself handling historical objects, leafing through archival material, and working with museum professionals, as well as engaging with digital sources and archives.

There’s also the chance to study abroad for a semester, take part in European field trips, and go on work placements as you prepare for a career in many different fields including business, management, local government, heritage, museums and more.

As a history student at ARU, you'll form an understanding of why people and societies think and behave as they do – and how these actions can echo down the centuries. This historical insight will sharpen your ability to analyse and tackle complex problems, such as how social divisions arise and dictators come to power. You’ll also form an awareness of the limitations of our knowledge and the dangers of simplistic explanations.

These are important skills, with the World Economic Forum listing complex problem solving and critical thinking as two of the top 10 skills we need to thrive in today’s workforce.

In Years 2 and 3, our optional modules allow you to explore the areas of history that interest you most, with topics including the First World War, modern British politics, sport, the Russian Revolution and histories of everyday life. There is even a class on the history of James Bond! Meanwhile, your Undergraduate Major Project lets you complete a substantial piece of research work so that you become a historian in your own right.

You’ll be supported by staff, recognised as leaders in their field, whose expertise ranges from British imperialism and Victorian studies, to modern politics, gender history and the history of sense and emotions. As a BA (Hons) Film Production student at ARU, you will be supported by award-winning, lecturers whose work has been screened on all the major UK television networks, as well as at multiple international film festivals. They have won Emmys, HUGOs and BAFTAs and continue to practice.

Our BSc (Hons) course focuses on equipping you with software engineering skills with a slight edge given to programming languages, so if it’s the ability to bend software to your will that excites you, this is course for you. If you're interested, however, in software engineering skills with a slight edge given to networking principles, the BEng (Hons) will give you the tools to enable you to configure complex network systems.
