Objectives

Your career in finance and accountancy launches here. Over three years – or four if you choose to take a work placement or study abroad year – you gain a thorough grounding in a wide range of core and optional modules. You will become proficient in all areas of accounting and finance, from financial accounting and corporate finance to financial management, taxation and economics.

You also have the highly valuable option of a study abroad sandwich year at one of our highly-respected partner institutions across the world. In an increasingly globalised business environment, this is excellent preparation.

The Accounting and Finance degree is both highly selective and highly demanding. You will be working hard for the rewards it delivers. The degree is delivered in strategic partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). By meeting the relevant criteria, BSc Accounting and Finance students can achieve up to eight exemptions from the ICAEW's Chartered Accountant qualification (ACA) and receive similar exemptions from other professional accountancy bodies.

Gain the knowledge, skills and solid foundation in finance you need to launch your career in the energy market, commodities or shipping.

Your peers on the Energy, Trade and Finance postgraduate course will be on average, 24, with a minimum 2.1 or equivalent bachelor’s degree. It’s likely you will have a few years’ work experience either through an internship of full-time employment. You needn’t have any prior knowledge of energy, commodities, shipping or finance, although you should be comfortable with quantitative methods (mathematics and statistics).

You’ll emerge from master's in energy, trade and finance course fully equipped to operate effectively in this highly competitive international energy industry. You’ll gain a solid foundation in energy economics, markets and trading, and be able to formulate strategy for fossil fuels, electricity and renewables. The course is offered through the Costas Grammenos Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance. The Centre is widely recognised and valued by practitioners and academics. Since the launch of the Centre in 1983, its three primary aims remain the same:

This multi-disciplinary approach ensures that you are equipped with competitive skills and knowledge in the areas of energy, shipping, commodity trade, finance and investment.

You will develop your clinical and theoretical knowledge with the guidance of expert practitioners informed by the most up-to-date research.

You will gain a detailed understanding of the expanding role of optometrists in the co-management of patients.

Your studies will be underpinned by a core module in Research Methods and Applied Data Analysis to develop your critical research skills.

Elective modules will allow you to build your professional knowledge and contribute to research in your particular areas of interest.
